(Advocate) — Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on Tuesday named Jeff Trammell and Mary Breslauer as senior advisers and Mark Seifert as director of Kerry’s outreach program to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered voters. “I’m tremendously honored that Jeff and Mary have agreed to join this campaign,” said Kerry in a statement. “They have led the fight for gay and lesbian Americans, and they will be terrific assets as we mobilize our campaign to bring change to America and reunite our nation.” Added Trammell: “Never have the stakes been higher for gay and lesbian Americans. The Bush administration is in the process of driving gay and lesbian Republicans out of their party. John Kerry has a 30-year history of fighting for the rights of our community. We must do everything in our power to elect him president.”
—Good for Kerry! I just hope this doesn’t lose him votes . . . Coming out as being in favor of equal rights for gays is pretty much akin to coming out as an atheist in this country.
I am hoping and wishing this caused Kerry to get the lion’s share of the GLBT vote.
As I recently boinked a guy who the next morning revealed himself to be a Republican that thinks Bush is the best president we have had, it’s clear that at least a good segment of the Log Cabin Society will not be voting for Kerry.
Futher, if the contingent of the irresponsible gays(like my ex-husband) who don’t vote let apathy and laziness get in the way of standing up for themselves, the GLBT vote may not really have that much of an impact.
