This thread seems to have brought out quite a few appreciators of one cup coffee and espresso makers, so I thought I’d start a separate discussion thread.
What are your favorite flavors or styles? Are you interested in buying one of these products but want questions answered first? Do you know of a good and reliable source for cheap but high quality product (yes, we’re still talking coffee people)? Do you have experience with a Keurig being of lesser or higher quality than an off-brand or no-name brand? Tell us here. Discuss away!
I shop at Sam’s Club, and generally I find ALL generic, Sam’s brand to be of excellent quality at a great savings.
Well, they recently started offering K-Cups of the Sam’s brand, and I was anxious to buy a box and get it home.
It was a box of 54. I used exactly THREE K-cups and took it back for a full refund.
The coffee is too fine of a grind, and it plugs up the needle spigot. After using one cup, I had to completely dissemble the cup holder and use a paper clip to clean out the needle spigot.
After the third K-cup, I said, “Screw this!” and took it back.
I was given a full refund, no questions asked.
I usually buy the Newman’s Own K-cups and Donut House K-cups at Sam’s Club. Occasionally I can find the Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice. (SWOON!)
The most fun is to buy the assortment boxes available through Amazon!

If your office uses K cups, you may be able to buy them from the supplier at the corporate rate. I’m about to start doing that, so I don’t know what they will cost yet, but I think less than 50 cents each.
Alright. Kcups: My favorite is the Coffee People Donut Shop Coffee. I’ve tried several Green Mountain brand flavors, I like them ok. The cafe escapes stuff seems really watery and blah to me. Folgers’ Caramel Drizzle was awful, but the Vanilla Biscotti was ok. I don’t really like the Newman’s stuff, I love the Dunkin Donuts. Lastly, we got one of those reusable kcups, and as long as you don’t over-fill, they seem to work pretty well. Fine grind is best in those, I have found.
As for machines. Well. I got a Mr. Coffee at Target on Black Friday, it was a great deal- $80 plus a $30 gift card, which made the machine $50.00 net. It takes Kcups. The resevoir is quite a bit smaller. It takes at least twice as long to make a cup, and it doesn’t seem to blow out as well which leads me to think it’ll be clogging before too long. The 2 cup sizes are either too small or too large. I don’t really like it much, personally .It’s not horrible for $50, but I had a Keurig first and stepping down to the Mr. Coffee was a bummer. Now that the sale is over I would say it’s worth the extra $20.00 to get the Keurig.
We’ve had a Keurig at work for maybe a year now, and recently got a second one. The coffee was OK when I tried it, but a little weak for my taste, even on the smaller cup setting. The new machine has a third button for how much coffee, adding a smaller cup size. I assume it would make stronger coffee with that setting, but haven’t tried it yet.
I like Gloria Jean’s Macadamia Nut Cookie. Mmm… Boyfriend likes Caribou Blend. This is why we have the Keurig, I love flavored coffee and he won’t drink anything but plain.
When I worked at an office that had a Keurig I bought Timothy’s French Roast coffee. It was so strong and rich I could drink it without milk and sugar, kind of like a long espresso.
Then Tassimo gave free coffee makers to the clinics (I worked for Canadian Blood Services then) and in the clinic shut hours we could have the Tassimo drinks. I really liked their chai tea lattes, but I wasn’t crazy about the coffee drinks with milk. The milk pods are a nice feature but I would still probably get a Keurig. Which I will, next time I am single. (I’ve been with current common law husband dude for five years, it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.)
