He’s still above ground, as he put it. Happened between shows Sunday night in Glendale, CA where he was filming a new special.
Get well soon, dude! I need new episodes of Comic Book Men.

Oh no. Wishing him well.
I was just coming to post this. He’s only 47 but his Dad died from a massive heart attack.
Hope he recovers well and soon.
Let’s send him a VHS of Navy Seals for him to watch while he recovers.
I think they’re all worn out by now.
He seems like a cool guy. I don’t watch his movies anymore, but he seems like a cool enough guy.
I hope he gets the treatment he needs and can live a full life.
Unhealthy living will catch up with you. Smith spent many years at an unhealthy weight, probably smoking a lot of cigarettes and drinking a lot of alcohol. If he was indulging in a lot of cocaine too, that would make it even worse. That combination takes a serious toll on the heart, which can remain even if the person cleans up later in life.
I’m not posting that to threadshit, btw, it’s a serious issue. James Gandolfini, one of my very favorite actors, left us way too early for the same reasons.
Smith has directed episodes of The Flash and Supergirl. In fact, he directed the upcoming 17th episode of The Flash’s current season.
He’s not even supposed to be here today.
Get better, Kevin!
Another “cool guy; don’t go yet” sentiment from me.
I have a question for you folks. I turn 40 in 6 months and these things are in my mind more.
I go for a physical every 6 months. I get bloodwork, usually extensive, every time(or at least once per year on bloodwork).
Would Kevin Smith’s blockage be detected if he had done the same? I’m not saying he didn’t; I have no idea. I just want to know if my bloodwork and physical is checking this stuff.
If not, should we all be going to get our “blockage levels” checked annually? I don’t want to find out like Kevin Smith did.
I am not a doctor yada yada yada…
Unless you’ve got a family history of heart disease you should be okay. My dad had a heart attack last month and ended up having triple bypass surgery and a valve replacement. This happened at the same age as my grandfather’s heart attack and bypass surgery. Since it appears that heart disease runs in the family I need to get to the doctor and get the old ticker checked out. Of course it wouldn’t hurt for you to do the same, but I would listen to your doctor.
Silent Bob is only a year older than me so I’m feeling a greater sense of urgency to get to the doctor.
He lost a lot of weight over 2010-2011, I’ll dig up a cite if anyone really wants one. I don’t know if he ever gained it back.
He’s down 85 pounds from his peak. I know he was heavier than me and I’m another fat guy and now he is lighter. I would guess around 210 for him. His big weight gain came when he took up seriously smoking a lot of dope. I use to see him live annually back before he went from recreational to serious pot smoking. The 4th show I went to, he wasn’t really the sharp witted raconteur he had been. Still had some good stories but he wasn’t compelling the audience for 4+ hours then.
I wish I good knuckle down and lose 85 pounds.
Wishing him well, I’ve enjoyed his work over the years.
He certainly was at an unhealthy weight for a long time but he’s a good weight now. He eats right and exercises. He’s not a drinker and he quit smoking cigarettes over ten years ago when he started smoking pot. He doesn’t do other drugs. This is from him so he could be lying but he’s made a career out of being brutally honest.
I was reading an article that says there may be a link between marijuana and cardiac issues but it has not been fully researched yet. It certainly appears to be better than smoking cigarettes. Of course the effects of years of bad habits are not instantly erased when you change them. Being at an unhealthy weight for so long combined with his family history is in a recipe for disaster
How old was his father when he died?
That’s good news.
