Keyboard short cut fix? (Firefox users)

For some reason now, when I’m using Firefox, everytime I put up an apostrophe, the little box for “find” pops up-(if you want to see it, hit ctrl+F). What gives? Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?
GRRR!!!

That’s weird. Just tried it while reading your post, and sure 'nuff, the Find popped up at the bottom of the screen.

However, while typing this, the ‘’’’’’’’’’'s don’t do anything. Odd, all right. Never noticed it before.

Here are some potential solutions.

Huh. It stopped doing it. What gives? ‘’’’’’’'weee!

That’s weird.

Shit, now scrolling is giving me problems! I’ll be able to page up and page down in one tab, but not in the other. And dammit, it the FUCKING apostrophe thing is back-what’s going on?

:frowning:

I’ve got another really obscure Firefox question. When I’m in the address bar or a one-line field, is there a way to set things so the up and down arrows take me to the start or end of the line? That bugs me.

I updated to the latest version of Firefox, and now it seems to be working.

Just hitting an apostrophe if I’m not typing anything in a text box will bring up the find bar, but that’s it.

Use the “Home” and “End” keys.

Nope, doesn’t work.

Very odd, that must be an extremely special version of Firefox you have there, I can’t reproduce any of the problems you are experiencing.

The only thing that occurs to me, and I readily admit that it is fairly improbable, that your keyboard is either non-standard, is set for another language or the keyboard processor is on the fritz.

It’s Firefox 1.5.0.4, OSX 10.3.9, Apple standard “Keyboard.” Almost new. It doesn’t happen in any other program.

I had the exact same problem!!! Then it went away, exactly like you!!! Then a month later (yesterday) Firefox deleted my bookmarks and refused to bookmark anything else. The only solution I found to cure the ever increasing list of minor annoyances resulting from Firefox use was to delete the browser and install Opera.

I’m happy today.

The significant difference is the OSX part. I’ve used firefox for absolutely ages and have never had problems like yours - running 1.5.04 too.
The only problem I did have was thet when I installed Netscape 8, Google Maps stopped working - they were fine with Netscape 8 beta.
That was fixed with 1.5 when it came along.

Opera is quite an acceptable alternative though. I use that too but on the whole prefer Firefox.
