Why would anybody release a feature that does that. The newest IE7 beta browser is like that, as well as all versions of Word and Excel that I know of.
Also, when I do a Find On This Page and the page has to be slid up and over, the search word is not only under the Find popup but also in the dead last line of the window, so I have to scroll to find the entire sentice it’s in.
Is there a cure for this? An option somewhere?
Or, do any add-on Find On This Page utilities exist that I can use instead of these?
You will find that once you’ve moved it, it will open in the place you re-located it to from that point onwards… my Find box opens on my second screen, which can be a little disconcerting…
That’s one of the things I really do love about Firefox - the Find window pops up as a bar at the very bottom of the screen, which is especially good if you’re going to be using it for a few pages or whatever - doesn’t interfere with your work at all. I mean, I know that’s a bad answer to a question about a specific application, but it’s true.
Silly? Please, if you know of any alternatives, please don’t hold out on me. Holding out is silly.
I used to have a browser add-on that would higlight all occurrences of the word in yellow, display the number of occurrences found, place it’s box in a corner and the first word near center screen, and then let you hop from one word to the next with the F3 key. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of that add-on and can’t find it to install with this browser version.
For IE7 released version 7.0.5730.11 moving the dialog only would help if you could predict where the word you want will appear and put the box elsewhere.
I seldom know where it will appear.
As for it staying where you put it, that appears to be for one session only, then when restarted it returns to the corner, which is often enough over the word found.
It still scrolls just enough for the word to be glimpsed at the bottom of the screen, not near the center as with other product’s Find.
Firefox? Tried it, didn’t like it. Won’t debate it here.
Unfortunately you’ll find that after you restore it, it will appear slightly after the rest of IE for ever and ever so you have to pause before clicking anything.
The find operates differently in each product. For IE, I sometimes catch it not finding more than 2 times on a page when there are dozens of matches.
For Excel, when it reaches the end of the page it starts over without telling you.
Word will ask if you want to restart at the top.
