Kick start and go fund me questions

A few years ago because of my significant others cancer I put on hold a tour where I would go around the country and do bow builds with other semi well known bow builders. I do primitive archery bow building. The idea was that I would do videos of the theories and practices that I have written about. Each trip would last about 3 or 4 days and I would be hosted by who ever I was doing the build with. My expenses for travel and materials would average about $1,000 per trip and I would plan about 10 trips over a 1 year period. I am getting older so would need to squeeze it into a tighter schedule than I had originally planned. I am not looking to make any kind of profit but I would like to try and recover all my expenses. The videos would be going on you tube.

The field is rather specialized so I doubt the views would produce any money. I have been considering some kind of funding program to help me out with this and am wondering about things I should offer. I was thinking a semi edited version of the you tube video about 1 hour long for a $25.00 donation. How much do I need to say about myself and my qualifications when applying for something like this?

I hold several world records for flight shooting and bows I have built for others hold many more records. A chapter I wrote in a well known series of books has been well received internationally and is commonly a topic of conversation in the bow building forums. I have also done some discovery channel work on TV. Any advice would be appreciated.

I thought I put this in My humble opinion forum, if the mods think it should be moved that would be fine with me.

I can’t comment on GoFundMe, but with Kickstarter the more info the better IMO.

For a smaller tier reward, perhaps offer their name in the ‘credits’ of you YouTube videos. A couple of high level rewards might be:

  • to build a bow with the backer, where the reward level would need to meet the trip costs plus a premium to contribute to other trips.
  • build and send a bow to the backer.

Depending if either of those were something you could do.

That’s a good idea, I could send the bow in the video to the donator.
