Well, I guess it wasn’t that obscure.
Anyhoo, I’m left with the impression that either a lot of backstory was either edited out or kept deliberately vague, to be explained (likely in a rather inept manner that introduces even more questions) in some future project.
I think Spock did a mind-meld on Palpatine then Geordi reversed the polarity thus causing the twin suns to emit epsilonian radiation that caused the Raiders to kidnap her.

Yeah, because clearly, it’s impossible for two people to look as much alike as Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman, without them being closely related.
