Vazquez sounds is a trio of Mexican siblings: Angie (10, vocals), Abelardo (15, guitar/bass/piano), and Gustavo (13, drums) and they are jaw-droppingly good. Their dad is a record producer in Baja California, Mexico and the kids have access to his studio. They’ve popped up on CNN once or twice and Good Morning America did a story on them. You owe it to yourself to listen to their cover of “Rolling in the Deep”. They cover the absolute Hell out of that song. I like it better than the original. Wow. Just wow.
I can tell that they’re talented but “Rolling in the Deep” just isn’t a good song for their lead singer. She sounds like a little girl trying to sing a grown up song and it just doesn’t work.
Maybe, maybe not, but (especially) for a 10-year-old, I’m pretty damned impressed by how she’s articulating the vocals (assuming there’s not a lot of studio trickery going on there.) I wonder what she will sound like after a few years when she discovers her own voice.
Or when she learns to speak English, for that matter. That’s one of the amazing things about this. I can’t be dead certain, but I think she learned the song phonetically.
I’ll bet she speaks fluent English. They live in Mexicali, they appear to be upper middle class and might go to school in the USA as many border area residents of affluence do.
I learned English along with Spanish growing up and my children have also. One of my daughters teaches English in Europe. Most all of my kid’s friends speak fluent English having attended bilingual schools since elementary level.
