I read that in the Japanese version, The Bride cut both of Sophie’s arms off, but I haven’t seen that version myself.
Anyone have a clue when “The Whole Bloody Affair” is coming out?
He’s an EX-BILL!
Not Just merely Dead…Really, Most Sincerely Dead…
Oh yeah, he’s dead. No question.
I thought one of the most interesting parts of the movie is that, in contrast to the jaw-dropping body toll in the first one, there’s only one death at Kiddo’s hands in the second one. Pretty cool!
Daniel
No, no, no!
It was to show she had matured beyond wanting blood and revenge, and just wanting to make the world safer for her little girl.
IMO.
One arm is lopped off in House of Blue Leaves, the second is lopped off in the trunk of the car when Sophie is slow to figure out that she might want to cooperate with The Bride.
Just to point out again: The films are an homage to martial arts (and other action) films. Hence Pai Mei can balance on the end of The Bride’s outstretched sword. If “Real Life Physics” mattered, a lot of the movie could be trashed.
Ok I watched both Volumes this past weekend, back to back. And I LOVED the Kill Bills – so much. Anyway yes, of course Bill died – because unlike him, Pai Mai did indeed teach Beatrix the exploding heart thing.
I definitely think that Elle will try and avenge her blindness though…
As far as I can recall, this chopping of the second arm DID NOT happen in the KBV1 I saw.
Someone mentioned that she loses them both in the japanese version. Is that the one you saw?
Is that a sequel to Kill Bill? If it is, I’m there.
My idea for a sequel would be like this: It’s only a year or two after Kill Bill. Elle Driver sends someone to try to kill Bea and/or her daughter. The kid survives unharmed, and Bea survives more-or-less OK. There are a lot of over-the-top action scenes (as in Kill Bill, vol 1) and eventually, after killing Evil Assassin Guy, Bea realizes something: she’s a heartless psychotic bitch, and shouldn’t be in the same country as her daughter, let alone the same house.
So she drops her daughter off with a relative (perhaps a brother or sister who we’ve never seen, or maybe even one of Bill’s relatives) and then goes after Elle. She finds something really, really disturbing: Elle is training Vernita’s daughter to be an assassin. Bea kills Elle, and then there is a big awkward pause as Bea and Vernita’s daughter look at each other, in a “what happens now?” kind of moment.
Then Bea shoots the kid right between the eyes.
A moment later, the police rush in. Bea points her gun at the officers and gets shot, in a suicide-by-cop move. As the credits role, we see Bea’s daughter playing happily with her adopted family.
While we don’t technically see Sophie’s second arm being cut off in the trunk, after Beatrix threatens to cut off all her limbs we hear Sophie scream in pain.
Also, she rolls down the hill a little too evenly for a one-armed person.
I thought that showing her rolling down the hill, other arm and everything else intact, was a mistake. It would have been so much cooler to have left it all up to the imagination.
Perhaps you have not heard of the dim mak?
Yep. Bill is dead. The Snake Charmer is gone for good.
I have no doubt that Elle and Vernita’s daughter will be coming after Bea for revenge at some point. However, let’s not discount the fact that Nikki had a real-live husband–a doctor–who would not just give up his little girl to two female psychos.
Now, if the next movie (which QT says won’t be along for ten years or so) begins with two masked women bursting into the house in California, killing the widowed doctor, and grabbing Nikki, that would make sense. But those two can’t win, in the moral universe of KILL BILL-dom. Uma Thurman made the point that she approached each assassin on their own terms–Vernita was a master of edged weapons, so Beatrix brought knives (and when Vernita cheated with a gunshot, she was instantly punished by death). O-ren’s prestige and heritage demanded that she and her cohorts be killed with a sword–and a Hattori Hanzo at that (and note that the Crazy 88, those overacting Chinese extras, did not bring a gun either, obeying the code too). She tried to kill Budd with a gun but he used one against her first.
But Elle? Elle just cheats. She killed Pei Mei with poison. She killed Budd with poison too (the snake). She was going to put poison in Bea’s I-V back when she was in a coma too. Of course she can handle herself with weapons too, but her lack of honor means she can’t win either.
For me, Sofie Fatale is more interesting than Elle by far, and if she comes back it’ll be interesting to see what she comes up with. Don’t forget–she is a–I hate to say this, it’s so scary–lawyer!!
BTW, she also seems to have both her legs and one arm left, at least; you could see them clearly as she was rolled down the hill. Wouldn’t count on fingers, toes, or breasts, though…
If by that you mean, the next QT movie, I have no clue. It doesn’t help that he’ll say he’s going to do one thing and then change his mind after a couple months annouce something completely different.
So far, I’ve heard…
…A dirty dozenish movie called “Inglorious Bastards”.
…An Anime about the Deadly VIPERS in their prime.
…A Vega brothers movie.
…The next James Bond movie.
…Another Eastern Kung-fu/Sameri film.
For all I know, next he’ll annouce that he’s doing his own take on “Wuthering Heights”
I do believe Dr. Memory is referring to the reedited combined films into one SE. The most recent news I’ve read is the separate SEs for KB 1 & 2 are due in August, with “The Whole Bloody Affair” due around Christmas. This is rumor only, not verified by Miramax, so take it with many grains of salt.
She went after him with a sword. Actually, she was sort of being punished there. Though I never really did get why Bud did everything he did. He apprently didn’t really care about anything, money included. Oh well.
Is everyone forgetting about the black mamba that is still loose in Budd’s trailer? With Elle flailing around wildly with a toxic snake nearby…there is no way she’s making it out of that trailer alive.
Which is appropriate, since that was the Bride’s code name. So in a way, Bea did kill Elle.
Elle made it out alive, Sophie lost both arms, and Bill is dead dead DEAD!
