Kill them in prison

10% so maybe 1,000 innocent deaths out of 10,000 per year put down.

From the OP link:

“Out of every 1,000 rapes, 995 perpetrators will never be incarcerated, according to an analysis of Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation data conducted by the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).”

WTF?!

The article later explains that only about 230 rapes out of 1,000 get reported. Still, only five in prison from 230 is not a great stat either.

if anything id say stuff the kidnapper in a dog crate for a year and starve him for as long as possible …

“Professional rapists”?

I couldn’t even get out of a speeding ticket. Cost me $75, it did. :frowning:

The point is, these savages on that board, asking for this: what if someone offers to give it to them? Seems like that’s what Duterte did. And got elected. I don’t want to tie this to contemporary American politics, but this country has more than once voted for a president who promised something that wasn’t necessarily aligned with the values this country was founded on. So asking for this, advocating this, is just one step closer to bringing it about. Which would be abhorrent.

People and societies that encourage or even tolerate sadism, rape, and murder are profoundly, yet unsurprisingly, disturbed.

Why should we not tolerate sadism? After all, it is a recognized sexual behavior that is not exactly harmful if the sadist themself is paired with a compatible masochist.

Fine then. Let’s make this all about you.

I know you tacked on “not that that excuses anything”, but I feel like this needs to be emphasized even more. Their are a lot of people that love to pull out the “only technically rape, not rape-rape” in these cases," as if the age of consent is just a bullshit technicality. And it always becomes about the edge cases–the couple where one is 18-and-a-day and the other is 17-and-364-days.

This was not that. This was a 26-year old man in a position of authority over a 14 year old child–a 9th grader at most. A child–and almost certainly not the most savvy or mature of 14 year-olds, which is why he targeted her.
This isn’t just a “reason why the judge might not think it was a big deal”. It reveals a truly applying problem we still have in our society. I graduated high school in 1995. It was common conventional wisdom then–and I am sure that it still lingers–is that girls who had sex were always perfectly competent to make that decision. It’s a weird logic: children are pure virgins and sexually active teenagers are slutty whores, so once a girl has been pressured into having sex by an older man, she’s a slutty whore, so why are we pretending she’s a virgin who didn’t know what she was doing? I grew up with jokes about “If there’s grass on the field, play ball” and “old enough to bleed, old enough to breed”. There are tons and tons of people–and not just men–who so thoroughly dehumanize “loose girls” that they are filled with righteous indignation at the thought of a basically decent guy being punished because he took what some skank freely offered.

It’s WORSE if the judge went easy on this guy because it wasn’t “rape-rape,” because on some level he thinks the 14 year old knew what she was doing, because he feels sympathetic toward the bus driver. If it were a violent rape the judge hand-waved away, I’d be appalled, but I like to think everyone else would to. It’d be a crazy judge. Instead, what we have in a manifestation of a widely help belief–that the sort of emotionally immature, low self-esteem, likely already-victims of sexual assault young teenage girls that are targeted by older guys are trashy sluts who no one should empathize with. And all that x10 if they are women of color.

We should send them to Monster Island.

Is it still OK if you’re one of the 1,000?

How many of the innocent in prison are truly “innocent”?

Don’t know. You don’t either.

Don’t claim to. Most of the “innocent” are not boy scouts before the major charge and conviction.

What in the hell are you talking about? People should be convicted or not for the crimes of which they have been accused, not on the basis of whether they are model citizens or not.

I agree with you on that. The doubt was cast earlier about executing an innocent person.
