It’s a fun, space romp through the Quad system with a bit of a western feel. Reminds me a bit of Firefly. The characters are all likeable and it looks like Pree the bartender, Pawter the disgraced medic, and Alvis the weird rebel monk from season one may be joining the team.
They jumped right in with the action and piled on some more interesting mysteries and a cool development with Khlyen.
Huge fan of the fist season, thanks for not posting any real spoilers here. Good to know season 2 starts off well.
On a side note, is it just me or is Canadian SciFi killing it with the leading ladies at the moment - Killjoys, Dark Matter, Orphan Black … sure there’s more.
Not just the eye candy (although there is that aspect) I mean having the leads be these strong women. In killjoys, you’d think that Iceman would be the real lead, but, while I like him and he’s *a *lead, he’s definitely not the one in charge.
Iceman? Oh, took me a sec. Don’t know if you know this, but Aaron and Shawn Ashmore are identical twin brothers. Aaron plays John in Killjoys, his brother Shawn played Iceman in the X-Men movies.
I had no idea at all, I just assumed it was the same guy (and also the same guy in Animorphs and Warehouse 13 and The Following - which now that I think about it would have been an insane work schedule!). Now I’m going through their Wiki pages teasing out one from the other…
Oh yes, big fans in my house. It’s campy and definitely not hard science fiction but it’s fun and sassy.
It’s great to see strong female characters, and strong characters of all types. It’s also good to see a small, cohesive team that gets along like a small cohesive team should without all the usual tropey nonsense.
One of my favourite moments in the new episode was when John insulted Pree’s mom in the gambling den and the whole crowd of ruthless cutthroats clutch their pearls together and one of them admonishes John that you don’t talk about your man’s mother like that, what’s wrong with you?
Forgot to say, the other thing I love is that there isn’t the slightest hint of sexual tension between Dutch and John, he’s not portrayed as pining for her or anything and his only resentment when D’avin gets jiggy with her is that it’s a bad idea for the team - but they’ll willingly die for each other and genuinely love each other.
Looks like I was wrong about Pree joining the team, at least on board the ship. He sure has a lot of history though. Now he was also a warlord with scary hair? Hope we never see that again in a flashback or something.
Hm. The Scarbacks have been on that prison planet for 200 years. Interesting. Is Dutch older than we think she is?
Yeah, the level 6 green shit (as D’avin calls it) is important, but D’avin is immune to it and Dutch apparently isn’t a 6, so what’s going on there? It looks there’s a level 7 that scares the crap out of Khlyen.
