Kim Jong Un Does it Again: Kills His Defense Chief

Stalin expected Khrushchev and the rest of the Politburo boys to stay up all night drinking with him, and then work all the next day. And they knew what would happen if they slacked off in either endeavor.

I recall reading about an incident during Stalin’s time, the man of steel himself gave another of his absolutely riveting speeches, which of course required a standing ovation from the entire audience.

Everyone of course kept clapping…and clapping…and clapping…ten…fifteen…twenty minutes, until eventual one person (I believe it was a General) decided enough was enough, stopped clapping and sat down, to the great relief of everyone else I imagine.

Said General soon got a tap on the shoulder, and as he was led off was told, “Never be the first person to stop clapping!”

Man, the more I hear about this Stalin guy the less I like him.

Obligatory.

What has been watched, cannot be Un-watched!

Chances are equally good that parts of him flew at the time.

Six, 4-barrel, .57 cal weapons each firing 600 rounds per minute. Yup, that should do it.
*Satellite images capture North Korea executions ‘carried out with anti-aircraft guns’
Date May 1, 2015

Tokyo: Satellite images of North Korea have captured what appears to be the imminent public execution of a group of people with six anti-aircraft guns.

Released by the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea and AllSource Analysis, a US-based image interpretation company, the pictures were taken on October 7, 2014, from above the Kanggon Military Training Area, some 24 kilometres north of Pyongyang.

On a small-arms firing range, analysts have identified six ZPU-4 anti-aircraft guns lined up in front of a viewing area. Behind the weapons are what appear to be a line of troops or equipment, while parked nearby are a number of military trucks, a large trailer and a bus.*

The KPVT fires the 14.5x114mm round at a cyclic rate of 600 rpm.

*The 14.5×114 mm (.57 Cal) is a heavy machine gun and anti-materiel rifle cartridge used by the Soviet Union, the former Warsaw Pact, modern Russia, and other countries.

It was originally developed for the PTRS and PTRD anti-tank rifles, but was later used as the basis for the KPV heavy machine gun that formed the basis of the ZPU series anti-aircraft guns that is also the main armament of the BTR series of armoured personnel carriers from the BTR-60 to the BTR-80.

Velocity - approx 3,300 fps

Usually, a triple-A adjuster visits the scene to access any smoke or fire damage, and arranges compensation for the AAA policy-holder.

Jim Jong Un used AA guns.

From the last link, their VIPs travel in buses.

Like grade school kids on a field trip.

Anti-Aircraft-Artillery? No?

I wonder were the last words of the defense minister, the same as Breaker Morant, “Shoot straight, you bastards!”

And yeah, although its kind of James-Bondish supervillainy, death by AAA wouldn’t be a bad way to go. It definitely has a certain something.

A flair? :dubious:

That explains the SLBM launch claim. North Korea plus saber rattling frequently means one of two things are going on - internal power struggles or it’s shaping up to be a bad food year.

No, flares only work against AA missiles.

Guns used for a 12-step salute?

In the real world, AA, AAA, triple A, and ack-ack are all acceptable. However, the six ZPU-4 are considered anti-aircraft (AA) guns.

Oops, I did it again
I blew you apart
Got lost in the game

One of these days those troops marching by in parade are going to stop and face their leader in a 2100 gun salute.

I thought I had once read that the troops marching in parade are not supplied with live ammunition at the time. And isn’t there bulletproof glass in front of his podium at those parades?

That’s what I thought about *The Dark Knight *and the fake gun-salute cops trying to shoot Commissioner Gordon.

The ZPU-4 is an anti-aircraft gun more or less like a souped up US M2 0.50" machine gun.

IOW, it’s state of the art for WWII. To be sure, one ZPU-4 would make a right mess out of a low flying light airplane, or a former senior official chained to a stake. Much less 6 of them.
