There’s been a major power struggle going in the NK since KJ took over.
While the articles I’ve seen suggest that these executions are part of him consolidating power, I wonder if it’s actually the other way: people wanting to embarrass him are doing this.
In any case, it is another example of pretty well connected people getting taken out. It’s always been scary in NK, but right now it’s got to be turned up to 11.

Her name was Hyon Song Wol. “Excellent Horse-Like Lady” was the improbable name of her hit single (and, yes, there’s a video).
I think the detail I find most appalling is that Kim wasn’t content to just execute his girlfriend for whatever insane reason was floating around in his head. He also had to execute eleven other people as cover for the murder.
Also appalling is one of the stories I read from back when Kim was first being seen with Hyon. There was speculation that he might be making public appearances with her in an attempt to project a warmer and more humane image. If so, I think we can now say it’s failed.

There’s an animated gif of the supposed “pornographic” part and it’s just her, or someone who is supposed to be her, raising her leg over her head while fully dressed in a dance costume.
