King of the Hill question.

I’ve been listening to season after season of King of the Hill at work via Netflix, and I never noticed this until today.

Jo Jack, Hank’s coworker at Strickland Propane always calls Hank ‘honey’.

Is that what he’s actually saying?

I think that Jo Jack calls just about everyone honey, not just Hank…

That’s what it sounds like to me. He calls everyone “honey” though.

What’s the problem, honey?

The problem is that the OP is listening to cartoons at work. I hope the OP is not an air traffic controller.

Yep, he calls everybody “honey”.

I always assumed it was a Southern thing.

 No, my job is pretty menial and only requires about 20% of my brain power. I suppose I could use the headphones to learn French, botany or anything more useful.

Speaking of which, maybe I’ll start a new thread about that.

Jo Jack calls everybody “Honey” and Nancy Gribble calls everbody “Shuge.” I tell you what.

My uncle has called me honey occasionally over the years, but he’s the only Southern man I’ve ever known to do it.

There used to be a syndicated radio personality- an older guy with a thick southern accent- who called everybody, male or female, ‘honey’. He was on Hee-Haw a couple of times as well (though never as a regular). I can’t remember his name for love or money but I’ve always assumed that Mike Judge probably heard the same guy and held onto it until he had a character he could drop it into.

I know several guys who call everyone honey (my ex FiL being one). The first time you hear it, it’s kind of odd, but then you get used to it. The one I still trip up on, though, is the guy who calls everyone ‘sweetie’, male or female.
All the guys I know who use ‘honey’ (and the ‘sweetie’ guy) are all rural-raised and 60+, so I’m guessing it’s just a product of their upbringing.
