I happened to catch them on Last Call with Carson Daly the other night. Strangely enough, it was the exact same appearance I had caught earlier this year! Took me a while to find out who they were, because I had forgotten their name, but once I did, I googled them and got to their official web site, and then a fan website. Both were sort of lacking in details about the group though. I’ve been able to find out that they’re from Bergen, Norway and are both near 30 years old. I’m not sure what the name of the song they sang on Last Call was, although they had it playing on the official KoC website. I kinda liked it, though; it stayed with me. Any information on them or any other KoC fans here?
I also love the Kings of Convenience. I think they sound a lot like Simon and Garfunkel, with slightly breathier voices. I also like their instrumentals, most of the time (sometimes they sound too much like weird 80s pop, like in I’d Rather Dance With You).
I’m familiar with them, but only because I was in living in Norway when I’d Rather Dance With You was very popular. I listened to their first album and it was a lot less poppy then I’d Rather Dance With You.
They’re allright, something different to listen to at times. But I wasn’t greatly impressed.
I’ve got three of their albums on my iPod. Quiet is the New Loud, Riot on an Empty Street and Versus. Quiet is their best one imo, with songs like “Toxic Girl” and “Passenger”. It’s perfect “juice music” as I call it, meaning having a glass of orange juice on a Sunday morning with the blanket and the newspaper or playing Scrabble.
I just love the stripped down feel of their songs. It’s precious without being completely twee.
My wife likes them a lot. I like them too, but I can only take about fifteen minutes before it starts to grate on me. I find the music sort of aggressively nonthreatening.
Thanks all for sharing the info. I think the song they did on Last Call was “I’d Rather Dance with You.” Good call, Argent Towers - they remind me a bit of Simon and Garfunkel too. I’m going to see if I can find some of their more recent tunes. Thanks again!
