I kind of grew up watching Kristie. I’ve always thought she was beautiful. I still do. Anyway, she always seemed kind of serious to me. She used to be the type of celeb who didn’t air her dirty laundry. Now, she’s on DWTS and seems a bit weird. She’s also had a few reality shows I think that didn’t protray her in the best light. Has she ever has a meltdown? Or was she always this um offbeat?
She always was offbeat with a self-deprecating sense of humor. Did you ever watch Fat Actress? Plus she a Scientologist, which makes her crazy by default.
This.
It’s funny, I just saw her on one of the late shows, Leno I think, and I thought she seemed, er , different. I’ve always liked her and thought the same as** Biggirl** as far as her self-deprecating sense of humor but I found her rather unlikable and bitchy. I was thinking that she still has beautiful hair and eyes and her figure looks better than it has in years but something about her attitude made her quite repellent to me. Isn’t Scientology supposed to make one at peace with themselves?
That’s fairly recent. I’m taking about in the 80s-90s. Was she this off the wall? It seems she kind of went off the dead end in the early 2000s, but I never heard she had some type of melt down.
I always feel bad for liking her since she’s a Scientologist. I think John Travolta probably helped her join that cult.
The only thing I semi know about Scientology is you have to like tithe most of your income. More than other religions.
She’s never seemed bitchy to me, but she does seem a bit overly sensitive in the past. I think mainly because a lot of people ask her to appear on things and basically call her a moo cow.
Did she have more than 1 reality show? Also, did they portray her poorly?
I do agree with others that any Scientologist must be somewhat nutty. It’s a scam on a global level!
There’s much more to it than that. Besides the crazy theology (available only in the upper levels), Scientologists reportedly have a weird way of relating to other people (it all started as “the modern science of mental health”, after all) and apparently a powerful us/them paranoia. Have a look at xenu.com
Although I get bad vibes from Scientology, some practitioners are very good actors. regardless of their personal beliefs and lives, Tom Cruise and John Travolta have done pretty impressive things. I have no idea how weird or normal Kirstie Alley is in real life, but I do admire her persevering against the “fat” stereotype, and continuing o get interesting work.
I think this may have been what I was sensing. She seemed very defensive and cold which seems counter to the way I used to perceive her. Also, the more I think about it I’m pretty sure it was Leno’s show she was on and he doesn’t usually bring out the bitch in people.
I would also agree that there are some very talented Scientologists and as nutty as I find their philosophy, I can’t think of anyone in particular that I feel comes across as an asshole, so maybe her demeanor is strictly a personal, unScientolgoy related phenomenon.
Seriously? Were you around when she was being given some award (probably an Emmy) and in her speech, she thanked her husband, Parker Stevenson, “for giving me the big one”?
I don’t remember this as I was a child when that happened. She’s been coming off really batshit the last few years.
Wasn’t Fat Actress a reality show? She has one on A&E, too.
It makes them smugly superior to all the unwashed ignorant schlubs who haven’t been able to improve themselves to the higher levels that Scientologists have.
