Bailey The Cat (aka F.lea Bailey) went in for surgery today to remove some tumors that look suspiciously like mammary cancer. I won’t get the results until Friday as to whether it is or is not cancer. Please send Bailey some good thoughts.
I get to pick her up tonight and the vet said she’s stoned out of her little walnut-brain…any suggestions to make her more comfortable tonight?
Make sure she has lots of water nearby - that’s what my cat wanted a lot of when she came out of surgery a few months ago. Cuddles and loving never hurts either. Other than that, just let it run it’s course - she can eat (mine was wolfing down food that night), but she may not feel like it. Soft canned food would be your best bet for her.
{{{{{hugs}}}}}. I’ve been going through some very rough times with two of my cats, so I know what you’re going through. It’s funny how these furry things that can’t talk can worm their way into our hearts so easily, huh?
Does she have a towel or blanket she likes to use, even if you don’t like her on it? Nest it down on the floor for her.
I sure hope the tumors turn out to be benign.
And as I love a good pun, I’m going to steal that name, next time I get a cat. I have two already, and God willing, it will be years before I have to think of another name!
Thanks so much all, I’m counting down the minutes till I can jet out of here and pick her up.
Ava whadda ya mean can’t talk? Bailey can tell me exactly how she feels and what she wants at any given moment…like this morning when I dropped her off…I stuck my head into her little carrier to kiss her and she bit my nose Sorry to hear about your kitty troubles.
And, for a bit of lightheartedness, I brought the kitty into the vet this morning but had my dog in the car too. Well, it’s too hot to leave said dog in the car so she came in too. When we were all in the little exam room I swear the dog was having a Far Side moment and was jumping around happy that the kitty was at the vets and we were leaving her there…she kept looking at me like Finally, you’ve come to your senses and left that hissing furball somewhere…now it’ll be just you and me mom, Oboy!
That’s odd, my dogs get upset when I take the cats somewhere. Well, Dolly does, anyway. I’ve never really been sure if she’s jealous that they get to go somewhere with me and she doesn’t, or if she’s afraid I’ve taken away her favorite toys forever. (She and Eponine play together a lot.)
The best thing you can do is let her rest someplace peaceful, comfortable, and quiet. If she’s hungry or thirsty, let her have food and water in small amounts; larger portions can make her vomit. Other than that, just let her sleep it off.
Bailey is home and driving me nuts! The darned kitty acts like nothing happened. The vet suggested that she be confined for 7 days so I currently have her in the bathroom. She * may* stay in there for another day…but not seven days. She howled all last night which caused the dog to howl which caused BBJ to get no sleep. Reallys she seems fine and I think the confinement will only make her bored and cause her to chew on her stiches…
Histopath comes back today or tomorrow. I’m praying!!
You don’t have to keep her confined that strictly, but she shouldn’t have the run of the whole house, and you should discourage running and jumping for a few days, at least. She can hang out in your bedroom and have a bit more space.
If she’s gonna chew the stitches, she’ll chew them no matter how much room you give her, and even if you’re standing right there petting her and waving toys and treats at her. Once they decide they’re going for the sutures, or the catheter, or whatever, they’re relentless. If you think this might be an issue at all, have your vet get you an e-collar to have on hand. (Trust me, she’ll wait till 20 minutes after the vet closes to start up. They always do.)
Have the collar on hand and ready to apply at the first sign of trouble. You can always take it off when you’re right there to watch her, but those things can be invaluable when you have to be gone or paying attention to other stuff. We’re very, very liberal with the e-collars at work, and I can’t even begin to figure up the time they’ve saved me, between the cleaning and the laundry and the replacing catheters and sutures.
