Kitty Zits

So, I was brushing my white cat the other night and saw what looked like dirt on her chin/lip area. I tried to brush it off, but to no avail…so I sqeezed it…and out popped a quarter-inch long, eight of an inch thick hard pus thread… yuck

Well, what the HELL was it? Was it a cat zit or a cat boil? Didn’t that hurt?! Why wasn’t there a bump instead of the black speck… I mean if I had something that big festering under my skin it would hurt and swell and be RED.

So, what’s the deal?

“I mean if I had something that big festering under my skin it would hurt and swell and be RED.”

Then you would be a guy.

Some of this is kind of gross…

Probably a cat zit, my cat gets small round pustules from time to time, especially on his tail (he’s getting old, it’s fairly common). Bathing him keeps them under control.

Dogs get stuff like this too, I knew someone who used to have to extract blackheads from her hairess chihuahua before showing the animal

Use some antibacterial face wash, or some peroxide on a cotton ball. Stay away from alcohol, it seems to hurt them more.

As a side note, when I was looking for a dog at the humane society, I found one that was wonderful in ever other way, except, what I at first though were regualr fur matts from lack of grooming, turned out to be large abcesses all over her body.

Poor puppy.

Sounds like feline acne. One of my boys had a nasty case of this on his chin - I got some prescription shampoo w/Benzoyl Peroxide for him, washed his chin once a day, and it cleared up w/in a week or so.

Thanks Porc I’m grossed out and laughing, too…

Poor wittle kitty…she really did have a zit

::snork::

** Poysyn ** did you get the puppy anyway? Were they permanent?

BottleBlondJeanie I did not get the puppy, but really, I did not get any puppy, as we decided to wait some time until we could better afford (including any medical expenses) to care for the animal.

However, I did leave my name as an “Interested” buyer, so the dog would get medical care for them. Apparently they hurry to care for stuff like that if someone wants them.

It is pretty common in kitties. Your vet can give you some antibacterial soap (as porcupine mentioned) that will clear it up.

The fun part is washing kitties face. They don’t like that much.

Feline acne - if you are using plastic food or water bowls, switch to glass or stainless steel. Plastic can harbor the bacteria that causes acne, and many cases clear up after switching food/water dishes to non-plastic.
