Got to go to a small music show with a couple of awesome bands, i really liked Filth and 9 Dead, but i wanna also get some music recommendations from any bands that also might be under the radar.
KT Tunstall. I guess small ‘band’. Her voice range is incredible.
Album of hers ‘Eye to the Telescope’ is incredible. We listen to it at least once a week.
My cousins band - ‘The Something Brothers’. Album - ‘You, me and the Circus’. They are out of central Illinois. Not sure if they are still together, album is hard to find.
Starikova based in NJ, played in the general region.
They’re big on original music.
Not as small as those 2 bands anymore but, Not Enough Space. They been gaining popularity recently but I always recommend them if you like that genre of music.
Here are a few smaller bands I’ve seen in concert within the last few years that I thought were excellent:
The Fleshtones (around quite awhile but still touring as far as I know) have been described as blending garage rock R&B and psychedelia.
This is from the album ‘Roman Gods’.
I’m seeing them this weekend. They claim to be the longest continuously performing rock band still playing.
Saw a guy named James Hatem open for Cheap Trick a few weeks ago, and thought his show was excellent.
Old 97’s haven’t been playing as long as the Fleshtones but the same four guys have been together since the mid 90s. Or, as they say in one of their songs, “We’ve been doing this longer than you’ve been alive.”
Two places you might have seen them: they had a brief concert scene in the movie “The Breakup”, and more recently they were the alien band in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
listened to KT Tunstall, and they’re really nice, they remind me of “The Sundays” really good lead singer and the instruments complement the vocals perfectly…
Wish i could hear your cousins band, sounds like stuff id listen too, hard to find on youtube at least, but if you or your cousin have yt links to it def send.
Aw dude these guys really deserve more fans the ep they got on their front page of youtube “ Echo Born of the Violent Cacophony” is tight, not sure what genre they are but i can def add em to the car playlist XD
Dawg, this band is peak, almost like flyleaf and pierce the veil good recommendation!!!
Aw dude not enough punk ska bands i know of… you heard of fishbone? they def gotta be mentioned with ska/punk
Rolling Quartz is cool asf, their style is tight and i don’t see too many people play guitar like that, awesome music and they seem like cool people!
I understand how these guys are called “greatest there ever was” nice sound to em
Sorry, no links for my cousins band. I did find it once on line.
It is available it seems here - Discogs
Looks like it might be available on cassette. Yeah, it was a while ago.
I thought this band was bigger, but apparently not. They definitely deserve more recognition, though:
Also, to a lesser or greater extent regarding how small they are:
- Snow Patrol
- OK Go
- Lord Huron
I saw Snow Patrol open for U2 at Soldier Field in Chicago on the 360° Tour. My stepson had a couple of their CDs and I remember liking them, but they just fell off my radar a few years after that.
Mark Stary is a local musician that never made it. It’s a shame.
