A friend found an old dog, who seems confused and depressed and who may have been dumped. My friend (who does a ton of rescue work, and knows what she’s about) is hoping there’s a family looking for her.
She was found "2/9/13 in the Windsor Hills neighborhood of NW Baltimore, but seen in the area earlier that week and possibly as long ago as December. Very old (~15 y.o.) terrier mix, female, about 30 lbs., bad arthritis, poor eyesight/hearing, possible dementia. She is very confused and does not have a good quality of life, and if owners cannot be found, I’m going to do what they SHOULD have done and put her down.
Please share, especially with people near Windsor Hills elementary school, or the area around Garrison and Gwynns Falls. This girl is miserable, and I don’t want to make her suffer if her family isn’t looking for her. (And if they’re not, may they rot in hell for dumping an old, arthritic, half-blind/deaf dog in Gwynns Falls park to die in the cold all alone.)"
I don’t usually pimp this sort of thing, but the Dope covers a lot of ground and this is breaking my heart. I have contact info if anyone knows anything.
Oh God, I’m so sorry for you and the dog. I agree with your sentiments about the former owners needing to rot in hell, if they dumped her. I wish I lived nearby and could help out more. If there is anything else I can do to help, PM me please.
Many years ago, on a cold January day, my sister and I were at a busy intersection, at a gas station. Across the street we saw a car stop and put out a dog, then take off. We weren’t able to get the license number, but we did pick up the dog and take it home. It appeared to be old, and although we put out food for it the poor thing didn’t eat much. But at least it was in a warm basement and had blankets to sleep on. On Monday we took it to our vet. He confirmed it was old, had cataracts, bad teeth, and appeared to have it’s bowels congested. The vet recommended that it should be put to sleep, and did it for free, as he knew it wasn’t ours. I was depressed for a long time.
I saw the photo on Facebook from the Show Your Soft Side page. What a sweet looking dog! I don’t know anyone in the Baltimore area, but thank your friend for me for taking this pup in and taking care her.
Poor, sweet, old doggie. Your OP pisses me right off. If some asshole dropped off that poor dog I hope that they die, cold, scared and alone. Fuckers
We’ve got a local rescue that just today pulled a 15-year-old dog from the municipal pound. She was voluntarily surrendered by her family because they wanted to get a younger dog. People suck. I always want to point out to the parents in these families that they’re teaching their kids to surrender them to a nursing home and forget all about them when they turn 70. They’ll never get it.
I’m assuming she posted the “found” dog on craigslist already?
saje has said I may post my own lost dog story here.
Does anyone in the Topeka, Kansas area want a small dog?
Last Thursday morning, on the way to work before dawn, a little dog ran into the street in front of my car. It froze in the headlights, so I put the car in park and tried calling it over. It came readily enough. Nobody around hollered “hey, what are you doing?” as no one else was out at that time. No collar, and the poor thing was shivering, so I had a dilemma. I didn’t know if it was housebroken, so I couldn’t take it home. It was small and skinny enough it might have squeezed out of the gate in my backyard. Animal Control, or the humane shelter, weren’t open. I decided to take it to a vet clinic that’s open 24/7, intending to board it until I got off work.
As it turns out the clinic works with the shelter, and so all I had to do is sign the form stating where and when I found it, and describing the dog.
By today the little dog will be in the adoptable population. I’m going to go tomorrow and try to get a picture. It’s quite small, although adult, and appears to be a Chihuahua/ wirehair terrier mix. Between it’s youth, disposition and size I’m hoping it has a chance, and while it waits it will be warm and fed. If I didn’t already have a dog and cat I’d adopt it myself, but it’s not possible just now.
I was late to work, but it was worth it. So, who needs a dog in Northeast Kansas? I’d even help transport it!
One of the Setter rescue groups I work with is working right now to get an old girl in hospice care. She is a very old, skinny English Setter that was taken to a shelter in Iowa and TIED OUTSIDE, just left there. She is partially blind and has a large mammary tumor. The picture they posted of her breaks my heart. At least she is going to know a warm, dry, safe home, good food and LOVE in her final days.
The little dog I posted about yesterday has been adopted! Yesterday would have been the first day it was available for adoption, and sure enough, someone saw it and took it. :D:p
I’m doing a happy dance over this. We have a big winter storm heading our way for Thursday, and I hate to think of this little guy out in the freezing cold and snow.
