Initially, I thought the concept of a tsunami was a metaphor for a terrorist attack, economic upheaval, etc., but the story is actually addressing a tsunami.

Not to question Allah’s ways or anything, but if he’s so pissed at the US why did he send a tidal wave to southern Asia? It’s as far away from the United States as possible. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to stage a minor rehearsal in Lake Michigan for example? And doesn’t the need for a rehearsal sort of contradict the whole omnipotent concept?
Well, there is that island in the Atlantic which is expected to slide into the ocean sometime within the next 10,000 years. When it does, a super-tsunami will wipe out the East Coast. Could happen in 2007, I suppose.

Tsunami’s will destroy America? I wonder how high the wall would have to be to wipe out enough of the east and west coats? Is it possible?
Even theoretically, how far could a tsunami travel into American shores? I know in North Dakota we have little to worry about, and I’m sure my brothers and sisters in Denver and Las Vegas would be pretty safe.

It realLy is hard to imagine how a tsunami starting in the Pacific could wipe out the US without wiping out a very large part of Asia, andd similarly how a tsuname starting in the Atlantic could avoid wiping out much of Western Europe and West Africa.
