Kung-Fu Fighting: Domestic Opinions?

While skipping channels a while back at a friend’s house, we stopped on a Kung-Fu movie for a few seconds and began to wonder: how are thee movies considered in their original native countries? In the US it is common to consider dubbed martial arts movies to be cheap and cheesy–what did the original audiences of them think? Are these movies classics? Are these movies embarassments? Have the opinions of them changed, from when they were new… -to now? Any old Chinese/Japanese/Koreans care to explain?

A little bit of both, I believe – nobody thinks they’re watching Citizen Kane, but they realize it’s just good ol’ fashioned popcorn-movie time. Sorta like what we feel when we see ads for Die Hard IV.

shaw brothers are the best IMO

kung-fu is considered really hokey and no where near realistic for all the “chinese” parts

I gotta admit, in these movies the characters’ motivation for getting in a fight with each other is usually kinda flimsy.
