Is anyone keeping up with this? He played for my team (pretty well, actually) but has been the butt of all jokes for being the only #1 pick straight out of high school… Michael Jordan’s pick, when he came back to the Wizards, where he had co-ownership, too… He didn’t become an all-star, but for constant harrassment for a teenager and even later when he did alright… After a few shows kept teasing him, “All The Smoke” podcast, for example, Kwame has responded, and I must admit I never heard him speak before, but he’s funny, makes some good points, and it’s been enough for some back and forth responses. Kwame’s instagram went from 10k subscribers to 80,000 in 48 hours, and 99% of the Youtube comments on “All The Smoke” were like, “Man, I can’t watch Matt Barnes or Stephen Jackson the same way again” with very little defense.
His YouTube has quadrupled in a day… Here is one example of some NSFW, but his best video was Instagram Live that was on someone’s YouTube, don’t know where its at, and I don’t know anything about instagram, only interested in the trends/influence of each response
He wasn’t the only top draft pick to come straight out of high school. LeBron James and Dwight Howard accomplished the same feat before the NBA decided to institute its age restriction.
Why doesn’t anyone call Anthony Bennett a bust? He was AWFUL! Kwame played for 12-13 years, good post defender, set good screens. I think if he was drafted by another other than MJ, who at 39 wanted to win now, he could have had a different career.
He had the multiple misfortunes of ending up in a weak draft class and being drafted #1 overall by Michael Jordan and a franchise that was woefully unequipped to handle either of them.
The Bullets were one of the best teams in the NBA in the 70s, making the Finals four times, winning it all once. But Washington became and has remained one of the worst teams in the league since Wes Unseld retired in 1981. They’ve averaged 10th place in the Eastern Conference since then. Their high point since the 70s has been a Southeast Division championship in 2017 (4th in the Conference) and a 2nd round playoff exit. They won only 19 games the year before they drafted KB (which actually doesn’t even earn them a place on the 50 worst NBA seasons ever, but it sure ain’t good).
RIP Wes Unseld… Best outlet passer in the league. Now, the best outlet passer is Kevin Love, whose middle name was named after him - Kevin Wes Love
They did make a hell of a comeback after being so far behind. I wonder if they’ll trade Russ and Brad to get some young pieces - draft picks and expiring contracts.
