L.A. Noire, the latest offering from Rockstar Games, is out next week for PS3 and 360. I’ve got to say, I’m pretty exited about it. It’s nice to see an open world game where you’re on the side of law and order rather than causing wanton chaos and murdering lawmen who are trying to stop you. It also looks a bit more… cerebral than the usual shooter fare, building up cases and investigations.
It’s also got a much hyped facial gen feature which captures actors facial features, as explained here; Tech trailer.
It’ll be interesting to see how this is actually implemented in the whole investigation feature (like suspects smirking, giving telling blinks and what have you).
Anyway, I’ll definitely be picking this one up, providing it doesn’t get univerally panned - although I can’t see this being the case, Rockstar rarely disappoints.
Everything I’ve read about it so far sounds great to me. I’m still going to wait for the reviews, as Rockstar has occasionally let me down with new franchises (Manhunt, The Warriors), but I have high hopes for it and will probably pick it up on release day.
It’s been in production for, what, five years now?
I’m picking it up. I was sceptical for a long time, since I burned my fingers on Mafia 2 and Heavy Rain, but since I got my grubby fingers on Red Dead Redemption this christmas I’ve been a Rockstar convert. It’s not that they can do no wrong, just that they’re evidently not stupid enough to make the obvious mistakes. Might have to wait until it hits the discount bin though, my economy’s rubbish and I can’t really justify another game the same month as the Witcher 2.
I thought Manhunt was great and the Warrior whilst one of Rockstar’s weaker titles it was still worth getting (except for by then my PS2 which was a few years old could barely handle it).
Thoguh it’s worth mentioning this game isn’t a purely in-hpouse game, it’s being developed in conjunction with Team Bondi (headed by the person behind the flashy, but slightly insubstantial GTA3-clone The Getaway.
I wasn’t to thrilled with GTA IV, loved Red Dead Redemption, and did not like Mafia II, so I’m going to wait a few months on this one. Because it’s only a single-player game it isn’t necessary for me to pick it up right away.
I would also like to hear about it. I’m very curious as to what kind fo depth the game has.
Let me explain: I’ve soured on ROckstar. I like a great deal about their games, but I got kinda irritated at them for several reasons. Chief among them was extremely punishing mission design. Not so much that it was hard, but that it was obnoxious and strict. You had to do missions one way and only one way, period, end of story.
So I played San Andreas, GTA 4, and Red Dead Redemption. And I found them fun for a while but they all turned into a grind eventually. The plot is fantastic, but the games just sucked the life out of me.
So I do want to hear what it’s all about. If it’s good, I may give it try well down the line. But I am curious as to whether, or to what degree, they fixed those flaws.
I am really tempted. But, I cannot stand paying full price for games, when only a few months later I could get them so much cheaper. But, the temptation is back now that I see Amazon is taking 15 bucks off. (In the guise of a store credit.) That brings it down to 45… I’m still not sure! Anyone think it will be as cheap as 45 dollars any time soon?
Wonder if we have any Rockstar Dopers. Probably can’t come forward and wave, but it’d be cool. (Note to any Rockstar Dopers: We collectively want to have your Red Dead Babies.)
