Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search, but the search function done blown up with a memory error when I tried.
So I’ve been playing a little versus split-screen to familiarize myself with playing as The Infected a bit, and I’ll probably be jumping on (Xbox Live - Gamertag: Enuak) to play this weekend with some of you folks. But I wanted to start a thread to see if there are any “dos and don’ts” for L4D that you veterans can fill me in on. Being that my experience as The Infected is limited, I expect that part of my game to be a bit weak.
A bit about me: I’m not new to Live or FPSs (Halo, COD, RB6, Splinter Cell, etc.). I don’t have a problem using the mic when I play, but since I used to be a stutterer when I was younger, I can get flustered and stammer a bit in the thick of things.
So any input to make me a better teammate (not necessarily a better player), I’m interested in. Thanks.
There’s a huge Left4Dead thread going that has a lot of good info. Just above this thread currently.
Some tips:
-
Coordination. Let me say that again: Coordination. This is important for both playing as the infected and the survivors. Also, don’t forget your health pack!
-
As the infected, always try and coordinate with the boomer unless a potential strategy/opportunity develops where going in before the boomer might pay off. All this requires constant communication with your team.
-
As the boomer, remember that you are allowed to span in very close to the survivors, as long as they don’t have line of sight. Use that to your advantage always. You shouldn’t be coming at them from a mile away. They should always go “Oh shit boomer!” when they see you 'cause you’re all up in their faces.
-
Divide and conquer! As the infected hunter try to work with the boomer and smoker to separate the team. Once separated pounce on survivors. A good tactic is also to separate one survivor, and pounce on the survivor that comes to the rescue.
Kinthalis, yeah I’ve been in that thread and even posted there, but I wanted to start something specifically about strategies that the “aaa SDMB” folks are using.
One of the questions I have when playing as The Infected is, is there any “hierarchy” when you spawn? Generally, does say the boomer call the shots, or is it the smoker, etc.? Or is it usually just the guy that seems to know what he’s doing the most, regardless of what type of zombie he’s controlling?
Thanks for the tips!
Down in front!
The tank is powerfull, but alone is no match against a well oiled team. A team with all auto shotguns can kill a tank in mere seconds. The survivors should atleast be vomited before you attack with the tank. Survivors tend to split up when confronted by a tank which that makes them vulnerable to hunters and smokers. Don’t attack a survivor thats already being pulled or pounced. If you as a tank incapacitate someone, don’t kill them for you are ineffective against incapacitated and vulnerable to enemy fire, instead move on to the next victim.
