My fifteen year old is almost out of eyebrows to pluck.
Everytime I look she has plucked more. She now has about 1 inch of a very fine
line of brow over each eye.
She is an attractive girl that just won’t believe me when I tell her that having no eyebrows looks terrible. Thats probably a fifteen year olds normal behavior to ignore her dad but the kids not going to have any hair at all there.
I suppose I could hide the tweasers.
Advice please
There must be a website that shows before & after pics of plucked eyebrows.
Do a google search
Has she been to see a professional - eyebrow-plucker, that is? Maybe advice from a real live beautician (instead of her uncool mother - no offence, she is a teenager) would convince her that some eyebrow is better than no eyebrow.
I did the same thing as a teenager, because I hated my naturally VERY heavy eyebrows, would overpluck one eyebrow, and then have to do the other to match it – a vicious circle that would up in a bald face. Have her see a cosmetician, who can fill in the bad spots and show her how they should be shaped – she won’t realize how much better it looks with more eyebrows until she sees it for herself. It’s not all that expensive, and it’s worth it to keep her from looking like Whoopi Goldberg.

Note how in the photographs the model uses a pencil (or any straight object) to determine the length from the corner of the base of her nose to the corners of her eyes.
Other very good tips there as well.
My neice unfortunately inherited her (middle-eastern) father’s caterpillar brows. My sister started taking her to have her brows waxed when she was about 12. No more caterpillar there. I doubt highly that she would ever start to overpluck now, knowing how quick and painless a professional waxing can be.
Another vote for taking her to have them done. Try to take her to a nice spa, I go to a very classy day spa, and they do eyebrows for about ten bucks. And it’s a lot of fun. I’ll bet she’ll feel a lot more glamourous than she does tweezing them at home.
Also, this sort of thing can be more of a pain in the ass than she now realises. I began tweezing my eyebrows at about 13 or 14, and now they don’t grow in. I’d love to change the shape of one of them (they are not identical and I’d like them to be), but the hair just doesn’t grow in. That may happen to her, too.

I’m seeing this a lot lately and I’m starting to think it’s the new style for high school aged gals. We went out to dinner the other night and saw a gal who looked like a Divine impersonator almost her eyebrows were so crazy.
I have the whole uni-brow thing going on thanks to my arabic descent. Of course, you’de never know it.
Forbid her to pluck them for 2 weeks, then take her to get them waxed. And styled. She should only pluck to clean them up a bit.
I hate it when people have eyebrows so thin you can barely see them… all I do is I make it so I have 2 eyebrows instead of the one caterpillar across my brow bone and then I get them slightly arched and less bushy. Does wonders.
Y’know what? She’ll grow out of it when (a) she has better things to do and (b) she decides the pain is not worth the results and © you stop telling her not to.
At 13+, the one thing she wants to do (well, second thing she wants to do) is to prove to all, including herself, that she is independent and in control. If you make a big deal over her eyebrows, then that will be the one thing she feels she must do to prove her point. It’s the “forbidden fruit is sweeter” syndrome.
And it’s not that big a deal – it’s temporary, for one thing. Contrary to some myths, it will not make the hair grow thicker. If that were true, all men who shave would have beards like oak trees. It’s not a permanent mutilation, like some things I’d rather not think about.
For another, it’s just a fashion thing. Remember when people got all irritated over young men growing beards and mustaches (damn hippies!)? For that matter, taken a look at the Mona Lisa lately? Guess what – no eyebrows! It’s really a rather old-fashioned practice. Ladies in the 1920s, if you believe the pictures, used to remove their eyebrows and then draw them back in again in as thin lines.
i could send her before and after pics of my eybrows. I have no eyebrows now due to over-plucking as a teenager. Now they just will now grow! I am looking into permanent make-up because I just hate taking off my make-up and looking like a hairless alien.
I say go with the very glamorous spa idea - or print out this thread.
Heh… I didn’t even see that.
Yeah, I’ve been doing my eyebrows since I was 12, and its a LOT better then doing them with tweezers. It doesn’t hurt as much the second time.b
I don’t think she’s plucking them off because she doesn’t know how. She’s plucking cause it’s “cool”, much like the popular “anus lip” lipstick style (dark liner and light lipstick).
This fad came back big in the 90’s. Drew Barrymore was rathor enamored of the 20’s look.
It sucks, but until she gets tired of it, I don’t think there’s much you can do.
Around here, we call that the sperm brow. Very unattractive.
Show her pictures of Ziggy Stardust. People don’t think eyebrows are important or that you don’t really need a lot of the brows… unless you don’t have them.
The 1920’s look was also popular in the 1970’s. Hey, I didn’t know they wouldn’t grow back! I’ve been cursed with thin eyebrows ever since. I’m also considering having permanent brows done.
I would never never never get rid of my eyebrows.
I only get rid of hairs that aren’t in the actual brow. Other than that, they’re all natural. I think they look perfectley fine. Real eyebrows look so much nicer than no eyebrows.
