This thread is NOT about penis size, so all you perverts can just leave right now.
My brother and I get together a few times a week for some pretty hardcore workouts. It’s great because we get some good healthy competition going between us about who can lift more weight, it’s a great stress reliever, and it gives us some brotherly time together.
Then the other day, he mentioned that he thinks his size is intimidating to most women. This got me thinking. I know that most women dig a guy who has nice muscles, but how big is too big? I don’t mean big like this guy. If either one of us were that big, I wouldn’t be surprised if women were repulsed by our size.
Not a lady, but I’ve seen some research on the topic.
As long as you’re not a bloated steroid freak, most women won’t mind if you’re fairly muscular. The thing that women really don’t like about professional bodybuilders is their extreme definition–striations are bad, m’kay?
Do keep in mind that bad posture isn’t particularly attractive to anyone.
I think the main thing that turns my wife off is a guy who looks like he goes to the gym for vanity reasons, evidenced by shaving, tanning, wearing muscle shirts in situations where other people wear normal clothes, or having an incredibly low amount of body fat.
I would agree with that. The last thing I want is some guy (or girl, for that matter) so concerned about their weight that they can’t, say, go have a normal meal and a beer with me.
Another sign - if you have no neck, you’re too big.
I’ve met guys who do nothing but work out - three hours in the morning, after work, etc. That’s too much. If you have veins and bulging things, that’s too big. If it’s all you think of, it’s too much. If you think of calories more than I do, it’s too much. I like a nice snuggle and being all hard and bumpy is not cool.
Tie Domi is about the right size, muscle wise. I think probably lean is a better word for an awesome body…let me think, the guy who played Aragon in Lord of the Rings is a good example and about the only one who comes to mind right now.
Well, it all depends on the overall original specs of the guy…I detest some tiny [5’6"] guy who feels like he has to bulk up…reminds me of a toy poodle trying to look intimidating. I like larger framed guys over the slender body types, and oddly enough, a heavy framed guy can have more muscles on his body and still not look bulked up.
slender frame, toned muscles
Slender frame, heavily toned. The type of body that cant really bulk up, but IMHO a bit light on subcu fat layering. If I want to identify muscle groups I have a copy of Grey’s Anatomy. slender frame, good tone and fat layer
Good example of a pleasing body for a slender man. Good muscle tone, a respectable fat layer so you get a smooth surface, but not enough to hide definition.
Well, I don’t mind if a guy is big, because I’m not exactly a teeny delecate flower myself.
However, once the muscles start to get bulbous, that’s too big.
If anyone has every seen Holmes on Homes, I think Mike Holmes is quite dreamy, in a large, German, pissed-off contractor sort of way. However, his bigness looks like it comes from years of working as a contractor, as opposed to hours a day spent in a gym - a key difference, IMHO.
I’ve always considered Jean Claude Van Damme to be the upper lmit of what I find attractive. He’s built and obviously works out but he’s doesn’t have striations. Plus the muscle fits his frame so he doesn’t look hulking.
I think that if a guy builds up his muscles naturally, then he can’t really get “too big” - he’ll only get as big as his individual genetic makeup will allow. Results that are achieved through steroids and other artifical methods, though, are seriously creepy. Which leads me to wonder, are those horrible, bulging veins all over the bodies of some bodybuilders caused by steroid use? I’ve known some people who were bodybuilders who didn’t take steroids, and they never had those awful veins.
It’s mostly because their bodyfat is so low that the veins stand out. And not everyone gets it, it kinda depends on how you’re built. I tend to get veiny really easily, even at not super low body fat levels. I do think steroids may make it easier to achieve very low bodyfat levels (particularly if you’re female). I could be wrong tho’ (and am too lazy to look for it right now). I’m sure ultrafilter will be along shortly to give us the complete scoop.
Anyway, the appearance of vascularity is a combination of large muscles, low levels of subcutaneous fat, lighting, and oil. The guy in aruvqan’s is posing, not working out–you can tell cause he’s very obviously covered in oil.
Steroids and other drugs can act as vasodilators, and that’s where you get the really veiny look.
See post #2 for my thoughts on the topic of this thread.
I agree with Trunk 's wife and Canadiangirl …and most of the other posters so far. Anything that is too unnatural or over the top is out for me. I don’t want a guy who looks like he could never love me as much as he loves himself, if you know what I mean.
I have dated all types of men from gorgeous to homely. What was on the inside was always of the most interest to me. But if I had to pick a body type, I would say the swimmer/martial artist/gymnast body is most appealing to me.
I won kitchen utensils…don’t need a man who can crack walnuts between his butt cheeks.
Honestly, though, I think that Men have it pretty good when it comes to body types… Look at Jude Law. That guy is probably one of the biggest sex symbols at the moment, and he doesn’t seem muscular at all.
Yeah, I was thinking about that. I’m the sort of guy you’d describe as “chest the size of a barrel, gut the size of two barrels”, but most women seem to find me at least reasonably attractive.
I know it when I see it, basically. Nicely built is fine, if you’re into that kinda thing (I like fluffy guys). When the guy has no neck and his veins are bulging, you just know his balls are the size of raisins.
So the moral to the story is that “tiny” guys should know their place and shouldn’t try and compete with the big guys. Since I’m not built-up at all, I must be a non-intimidating “toy poodle.”
Hey, I can accept that most women prefer taller guys (just like some guys won’t look at small-breasted women). That’s the way the world is. People follow their animal instincts. You could have, however, been more judicious in your choice of words.
Hey cap, I think what aruvqan was getting at was the overall creepiness of over-compensation. It’s like the 50 year old bald guy with the bad comb over, driving a corvette droptop, wearing a satin jacket, with his 21 year old finace in the passenger seat.
Hey, that’s just one person’s opinion. Personally, I like shorter guys, they’re less intimidating to shorter women like me (barely 5’5"), they’re usually cuter, and they try harder.
You know, that has a lot more to do with perception and relative sizes. I’m not a huge muscle fan but the balls of a guy with 15" thighs are gonna appear a lot larger than the same size balls on a guy with 40" thighs.
