Ladies - strapless short dress advice please

Warning: those sticky boob holders can be a real pain to take off, especially if you have sensitive skin. The only way I could get them off was to stand in the shower and let them soak for a few minutes before peeling slooowly. They work really well, but they left me with red splotches from the adhesive for a couple of days.

I’m so disappointed in you.

It’s entirely possible that you’re a 34D (or even a 32DD) or some in-between and/or non-standard size. Are you a 36C because that’s the bra size that hurts the least, or have you recently been measured? I only ask because my wife, who is similarly endowed, had a size revelation when getting fitted for a bra at a moderately upscale lingerie store. The saleslady told her that she was a cup-and-a-half larger (and a band size smaller) than she previously thought. She also said that some ridiculous number of women are forced to “make do” with a standard size because non-standard sizings are so hard to come by, and sales clerks at stores like Vicki’s don’t know how to measure properly.

Regardless, with C or D breasts, you’ll want to be very sure of your fitting before tending bar. You might even ask the owner if you can do a quick dry run (before the place opens) to make sure you can still work in the costume without flashing the customers. No sensible owner should object as long as you’re on time.

baby oil is your friend.

Also as for taping them, you start on one side and tape underneath, basically like you are making your own stick-on bra

Alright, FINE. For you, I’ll be all over the internetz, pervin on your girls.

In the mean time, Samm, may I suggest you try popping over to Lane Bryant? I know, a 36 isn’t all that big, BUT they do sell that size there. In fact, Lane Bryant has one of the BEST strapless bras on the market. The bra more than holds up my 38-40 Ds and I have friends with MUCH larger boobs and it works fine for them. Check it out.

I’m a guy.

I vote for the thigh highs.

Another vote for thigh highs - get a garterbelt. You feel a bit sexy/trampy but it makes it easier to forget about. Go for short-shorts - they’ll easily hide under the dress if they’re like bike-pants (or frilly if you plan on bending over).

That type of dress - I doubt you’d have a hell of a hard time keeping it up. I know I would have trouble because I’m a B cup but as a C or bigger, the tape suggestions should keep you tucked in.

Also another vote for stick on boobs. They work well even if I had to keep telling my friends to keep their damn hands off me because I was not wearing as much clothing as usual (we’re…affectionate amongst females).

What you really need are ruffle butt panties.

Toupee tape is what we always used for stage purposes. It can be bought at some of those beauty supply places like Sally Anns fairly cheeply. (Two rolls managed to supply most of the senior class at last year’s prom, and we had no wardrobe malfunctions… at least during actual prom.) We sometimes also sewed some extra wig front fabric on things like that and used spirit gum (Available at costume stores, or at halloween stores this time of year). One other really good option is to attatch the dress to sort of nude colored body stockings so that it is truely no longer strapless. A lot of times if you look closely Vegas type costumes are made this way. There really isn’t quite as much skin as you think you are seeing. My guess for that is Fredricks or Victoria Secret, but I am not sure.

From reading the other bra thread I found this to be the case for me, and thanks to whoever recommended it!

Is there a way that you can stitch the bra to the dress? Could you make straps for the dress matching the black lace skirt?

Try a long-line strapless bra – the kind that goes all the way down to your waist and has boning in the seams. Be sure you get the kind with cups, though, not the all-the-way-up princess-line kind in which the “ladies auxiliary” can get lost. Lane Bryant is not a bad bet, but I have lucked out at Ross or TJ Maxx more than once and found prom-season-surplus bras for six or seven bucks. Fabric stores sell little bra-keeper straps that are usually sewn into the shoulder seams of dresses to wrap and snap around shoulder straps. The bra-kepers can be cut in half, with one half sewn to the dress and the other sewn to the bra, and the two can be snapped together at as many points as necessary. Toupee tape works, too, for attaching dress and bra. Double sided carpet tape works if you’re only using it to connect dress and bra. I would avoid applying adhesive directly to your flesh if you can. Past about a large B, I wouldn’t trust the stick-on boob support system, anyway. You’ll get better tip-generating lift from a bra, anyway. So says this 36DD.

Think suspension bridge.

I needed three peices. All started under one armpit and went to the other one. Use the first to truss the heaviest part of your breasts. The other two go lower and higher than that.

Remember to keep your back straight and bend at the knee. Leaning over is a no-no.

Thats is my suggestion as well. Since the long-lines sit on top of your hips, they stay put and they also give you a nice shape - everything is held in place where you want it to be.

If you don’t like that idea, you can also buy fiberfill bra cups at sewing stores and sew those into the dress. A lot of wedding dresses and swimsuits use those.

Remember the tips, though! Focus, people!

Thanks everyone! Good advice. I’m not sure I’m crafty enough to stitch anything anywhere, but I should be able to make do with one (or a combination) of the bras/tapes/adhesives.

Just don’t let some guy dressed as William S. Burroughs try to shoot the apple off your head!
