Ladies, talk to me about designer jeans!

I wear jeans nearly every day, even to work (business casual) and have decided its time to move beyond Old Navy but don’t know where to begin. The only “designer” brand I know is 7 For All Mankind. What other denim brands are worth checking out? I’m curvy, and about 5’2", and prefer skinny or straight leg to boot cut, if that helps…

The best jeans I ever had were Newman–I think it’s a French brand (the logo is New and Man on top of each other, and it looks exactly the same upside down…). These jeans made me look a few inches taller and a few inches slimmer and they felt fantastic.

I have tried to find another pair that good, and the best I’ve done is Ralph Lauren skinny jeans. (The Newman jeans eventually wore out at the knees, unfortunately. That happens even to the best of jeans.)

I don’t know about “designer”, but I bought not one, but two pairs of Liverpool Jeans last week because they were THAT comfy and fit me so well. They’re verrrryyyy stretchy, which for me at least, makes a very comfortable jean.

They come in skinny, straight leg, and boot cut, so you have your choice!

Joe’s Jeans are supposed to be perfect in making your rear look awesome. I have a good friend who swears by them and I’m thinking of checking them out.

I really love Gas, an Italian brand. Not sure how widely available it is elsewhere. Their skinnies are the business; their material is quite stretchy but not thin or saggy. Very flattering and very comfortable. They’re expensive, but not in the mega super range, because most models are straightforward and not embellished.

J brand has a pair that is super soft. It depends on what you like. My last two pairs were from rag and bone and j brand and they are both skinnies but very different hard vs soft in texture. I suggest going to nordstrom or something similar and trying on a bunch. They have most premium brands there.

I really like the brand frenchdressingjeans different cuts depending on shape, curvy, straight hips etc…Won’t find a big ole designer label on them though, I have a few of their cute jean jackets too.

Ditto. Joe’s Jeans. They come in many different fits and colors and Zappos has them so you can order a few styles and shipping to&from is free.

They have a bit of stretch and the skinny’s fit like skin! So very comfy and not at all like MomJeans! super sexxy!

If you’re 5’2", most Joe’s, J Brand, etc. are going to be an odd fit on you–even if you get them hemmed, because your knees won’t hit the right part of the jeans. Joe’s has some petites styles, including one called Provocateur that seems like your style based on what you described. AG and Hudson are also higher end and come in shorter lengths.

I know Levis aren’t really designer, but they’re certainly a step up from Old Navy and they have a huge variety of sizes. You can get short/ankle length and there are jeans called Curve ID that have different proportions depending on your waist-to-hip ratio. You can find which fit will work for you here or just go and try some on. I’m 5’4" with a proportionately small waist and these fit me better than basically any other jean.

Heh… back in the 80’s there was a commercial that went, using your best New Yorker accent, “hey lady! Jordache sticks out!”

d&r!

Im petite and my Joe’s petites fit like a dream. Perfectly proportioned in several petite styles for me.

If you are only 5’ 2", the inseam on designer jeans will be an issue. Even if you have the hem brought up, your knee won’t be in the right place. Even on a 23" waist for a designer brand, the inseam is still almost 31" for a skinny jean.

The best place for you to go would be GAP. They make petite lengths so the fit would be proportionate.

I wish they still made Bongos. The most supreme so-called “reverse fit” jeans ever. If you’re curvy (as in 10 to 12 inches smaller waist than hips), these are the best jeans. Anyway, enough reminiscing. I think Gap still makes reverse fit. I hope that helps.

No real dog in this scuffle - I don’t wear jeans any longer, they don’t make anything that fits a fat ass like me. Back when I was 135 pounds at 5’7" [I am now 5’5":(] I wore almost exclusively Levi 501s. I had a couple fancy pairs of girly jeans - a set of windowpanes with the 3 inch squares, and a set with just the waist to bottom of the leg ruches. [can’t find a picture of the second type online] I disliked both of them because while the size was theoretically correct, they were slightly too tight in the calves, and I would still have had to take them in drastically at the waist. [I had wide hips for my height, which gave me a very exaggerated hourglass figure as I have a fairly barrel chest from growing up swimming.]
