I am 5’2 31-26-32 I am pretty small boned, but athletic so I got some muscles on me. Overall, I would say I am pretty evenly proportioned. Buying clothes isn’t too bad if they carry a small enough size. Buying pants, however, can be a pain in the ass because they are almost ALWAYS too long.
I’m an hourglass, pretty much, although it looks like the sand is a little more than halfway out. I’m close to 5’11" and I’m 37-27-39 (or 40, depending on the week). Even when I was hugely overweight, I had exactly the same proportions.
The funny thing about that hip measurement is that it’s waaaaay down on my thighs rather than being actually up anywhere near my hips. I have saddlebags, and I always have. They used to be really big and right now they’re little bitty, but they’re not going anywhere. For this reason, A-line skirts work really well on me, as do wide-legged pants. I look incredibly dorky in the high-waisted, tapered-leg jeans everyone seems to think middle-aged women need to wear, but I’m far too old and have too many stretch-mark issues for anything that’s considered “low-rise.” Unfortunately, it’s incredibly difficult to find wide-legged or flare jeans that aren’t hip-huggers. I can usually find dress slacks that look good on me, although my two favorite pairs have a tell-tale crease at the bottom where I let out the hem on one and the cuffs on the other.
The top measurement is due in equal parts to a good-sized ribcage and moderately large breasts (I wear a 36C bra). I’ve pretty much given up on button-up shirts and blouses because the ones that are big enough to accomodate my chest have about a yard of extra material I have to tuck in at the waist, and the ones that fit me in the waist always gap at the bust. The odd thing is, if the shirts are too big in the waist, the extra fabric always seems to be in the back, where it just looks weird, instead of being distributed all the way around. I end up wearing knit tops that nip in a bit at the waist but still have enough give in the bust.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could average our clothing out? I mean, the petite women could donate some pantsleg to the tall ones, and the overly hip-endowed could trade off with the square-shaped women. Come the revolution…
I like A-line skirts as well, not having a waist an’ all. I still don’t have a waist but an A-line skirt does give an illusion of one.
Straight up-and-down, no boobs. Last year I went on a diet and gained ten pounds because one day I looked in the mirror and frightened myself! Now I have a belly.
Clothes shopping is a nightmare. And have you noticed that no matter what shape we are, we all have trouble finding clothes? What is up with that?
Apparently straight up and down, says goldfish. Measurements? Ummm, 34-27-34 (top downwards?). Height? 5’7".
Hourglass or smallish pear. 36-29-40 or so. Square shoulders, sort of defined waist. I’ve put on about ten pounds since I got married, and 15 since I turned 21. I’m still mentally adjusting to not being a tiny little fragile-looking 110 lb girl. I like lowrise wide-ish legged pants, long full skirts, and clingy low-necked tops. I’m not as into very short skirts and minidresses as I was when I was smaller. I’m still a bit self-concious about the weight gain, but I’m nowhere near fat.
I’ve always wished for a waist. I’m pretty blockish I guess, 5’3" and 39-33-37, after losing 25 lbs. I’ve recently discovered that low rise juniors size jeans look and feel the best on me. Finding shirts that I like is a problem though, the sleeves are either too short (I hate the way my upper arms look) or the shirt is just too long, and I’m not altogether comfortable with t-shirts that are even a little tight so I end up wearing a tank with an unbuttoned shirt over it. I need new tops this summer but I’m already discouraged looking at what’s in the stores.
I’m an hourglass, but I don’t know my exact measurements. Big breasts, small waist, round butt, 5’4, and about 130 lbs.
Slightly pear-shaped. 5’5" and 36-26.5-37.5 at 135 lbs. My proportions started looking better when I started rowing and gained some muscle mass in my shoulders. But I have a long torso and short stocky legs.
My biggest fit problem is my thighs. I hate buying jeans because I have so much trouble finding ones that’ll fit my thighs. And if they do fit, they’re usually really loose in the butt. I have more of a 1940’s figure and look better in skirts and dresses. I like pencil skirts 'cause they make me look curvy.
big tits, big booty, thick thighs, and hourglass. i can’t wear a button down shirt without a tanktop underneath. feh.
I’m a stretched-out hourglass, like Fire Engine. 33-24-37, 5’8"
My clothing problems:
Tops: too short. If they come in at the waist, they come in 3 inches above my waist, so the bottom gaps out. If they don’t come in at the waist, they also gap out from the small of my back. Anything without stretch that is long enough for my arms assumes that my boobs are a C, at least. They ain’t.
I look best in button-downs, boat-necked stretchy fuzzy sweaters and baby-doll shirts. I look worst in boxy, low-cut or v-necked stuff.
Bottoms: Anything that fits my hips is too big for my waist, and vice versa. Nothing is ever long enough for my legs. I look good in low-rise boot-cut stuff. I look best in tight skirts that flare out just below my knees.
More of a straight up and down shape here. I used to be really thin, but gained about 20 pounds over the last year, which I’m attributing to my age (perimenopausal).
Some of the weight did manage to attach itself to my chest, so I do have a little boobage now even though they are sagging more and more. My waist is too big for my chest and hips. I never had much of a butt, and now whatever’s there seems to be sliding down my thighs. I’m getting saddlebags and love handles like there’s no tomorrow. My belly below my navel is pouchy. My legs, from the thigh down, are super-skinny. I look best in high-waisted, slim-fitting tapered leg jeans, which are sadly out of style. I have some of the low-waisted jeans, but they look ridiculous on me with my belly.
We should all get together and have a weekend of clothes shopping!!!
No, thanks, I hate to cry in front of people!
Another problem with my shape is I have broad shoulders and long arms and legs. Sleeves are always too short, or they pull across the back.
Why can’t women’s clothes (especially shirts) be like men’s button downs? Get the neck size you need and go from there.
Oh, yes. I often wear an open button-down shirt over a tank top like others here, because that’s the only way I don’t feel confined across the shoulders and upper chest. Either that or t-shirts, which are not the most figure-flattering.
Jeans and pants for me will generally be much too big in the legs and rear if they fit my waist. I have found jeans that fit pretty well just about everywhere recently, and there seem to be a lot of them available. I guess no one else is built like me.
But that’s the point! We all have aspects we would love to do without, and as such, we can commiserate. We gotta stick together!
I’m an hourglass with broad shoulders and a long waist, which makes it not so easy to find clothes that fit. When I buy jeans to fit my hips and ass, the waist is so gappy that a belt doesn’t make it look normal. I find stretch jeans and the like so I can have a waist. (Although lately my waist has been expanding - gotta work on that.) I also have a problem fitting my boobs into shirts that fit my torso properly. So I either end up wearing a tent or my shirt fits so tight it look str-e-t-c-hed at the bust. That is of course if my shoulders fit into the shirt in the first place.
Top heavy hourglass. Big boobs, chunky waist(I need to lose weight), average-ish hips, big butt. I haven’t had much trouble finding jeans since the trend of low-low-low rise jeans that only made it halfway up my butt finally died, but now my big problem is finding shirts. If it has a high neck it makes it look like the shirt is trying to strangle me and my breasts look saggy, and if it’s low-cut it gets rid of all of those problems but everyone feels the need to come up to me and go, "Wow, your boobies are hyoooge! ", and forget shirts with buttons.
I don’t remember my exact measurements right now, but I think they’re something like 31-25-35, which, at 5’2", makes me a mini-pear. I like my pants to ride a little low on the waist, but not so low as to risk crack exposure, and my skirts to hit just below the knee. Hemming, of course, is part of my daily life, but I can deal with that. Looking for shirts, though, can be an absolute nightmare. Button-down shirts are the worst - sometimes even extra-small is too big, and I have to flee to the children’s section. I can still fit into a girls’ size twelve. The arms are a little short, but at least it doesn’t look like I’m playing dress-up in Mommy’s old business clothes.
She gave me the options of apple, pear, hourglass or ruler. To me she looks closest to a ruler, measurements or not!
