I think it makes sense. You would actually have waterproof makeup that doesn’t run when it gets wet.
I suppose you might be able to do that for eyeliner. But I’m guessing I don’t want anything quite that near my eyes that hasn’t been tested as being safe for being quite that near my eyes.
There’s no other kind of makeup that has even a passing resemblance to permanent marker in texture or tone, though it is possible to get ‘permanent makeup’ sort of tattooed on. It generally looks like ass, though.
Makeup isn’t just random color placed on the face or body. It has to be proven safe for application on the body. Also, many women change their looks from day to day, and will have different looks for business, casual, and big date occasions.
For the same reason I don’t use Crayolas: it does nothing to highlight my cheekbones.
Covers blemishes great, though.
Oh, yeah. Just using a Sharpie to write something on a bag makes my eyes water. And I’m supposed to use it as eye makeup? No thanks.
Ditto on the “permanent makeup” (really strange tattoos). It was all the rage for about. . .15 minutes. I can’t really say I’ve never seen any that looks good, because I guess if it looks good, you’re not aware it’s permanent makeup. But I’ve seen plenty that looks bad!
There was also an eyelash-dyeing craze for a while. I actually had mine done once (professionally!) Looked pretty good. No one will do it now, though; not safe enough, I guess, and people do get lawsuit-happy anyway.
In reality, there is waterproof makeup that really doesn’t run when it gets wet. A lot of women (myself included) don’t much care for it because it’s a bitch to remove. You have to scrub and tug and tug and scrub, then scrub some more. My skin’s pretty sensitive. After all that, I end up looking like I’ve been scoured with a Brillo pad.
My grandmother-in-law has permanent makeup tattooed onto her face. She is a very beautiful woman, it isn’t tacky or anything, it actually looks like freshly applied makeup… but yeah, I would hesitate to permanently alter my body in such a way. I really don’t mind spending the 5 minutes or whatever each morning.
I do not wear makeup. However, I do use Sharpies to write notes to myself on the back of my hand quite often. Permanent marker isn’t very permanent on skin. After a couple of hours it gets blurry and smudged, and it tends to bleed into the fine lines and wrinkles on my hand, so after a little while it’s more of a spider-webby smudge than a legible note. It’d probably look pretty dreadful applied around the eyes.
My lady friend has permanent tattoos as an aid to makeup.
Eyebrows are done but she add color for a more dramatic (evening) effect.
Eyeliner is permanent with a slight tint for mascara.
Lips (yikes) are lightly tinted as well.
She can go out without any makeup at all (big time saver) or add the fancy touches. She recommends to friends - just be sure to make it light.
I tried it and made a mistake!
Heh. My ex had a co-worker who did the “permanent make-up” tattooing. That was back in the late 80s when the style of eye make-up was thick underlines with eyeliner (like Pat Benatar.) Of course make-up styles change the same way hairstyles do. So gone are the days when women had the “wedge” haircut and super dark underlines… Except my ex’s co-worker. She had modern hair with 80s make-up.
It made her look like Michael Jackson.
Yeah, I’ve got some great MAC eyeliner (liquidlast maybe?) that really stays on. It’s great for a night out but even with eyemakeup remover, I can still see it for the next few days.
The point that makeups styles is a good one. Look at this page on correcting bad permanent makeup. The heavy brows and eyeliner look awful now. Plus, what if you get a bad tattooist? Although my grandmother had her eyebrows tattooed on (she had almost none like many older ladies) and it looks very light and natural.
A long time ago, I read an article about a woman who had permemnet lip color applied and had a bad allergic reaction to the ink. It was so bad the doctors wound up cutting off her lips and reconstructing them.
You were aiming the blue marker at your eyelids but got it all over your face?
I’m pretty sure most women don’t want to walk around smelling like Sharpie all day and getting high off the fumes.
Well, who really knows what women want, anyway?
Eau de Sharpie… so sexy! So sexy! :: huff ::
I imagine that Sharpies or other magic markers don’t come in the subtle hues that you can get from standard makeup.
Because I really enjoy playing with my makeup. Half of the fun is messing around and trying new looks, colors, and styles. Hell, that’s why I spend so much money on my piles of Mac!
I don’t understand permanent makeup (tattoos)- it ALWAYS looks bad, seriously.
Sure, I like waterproof stuff, but my Mac Liquidlast eyeliner is great- as well as the water proof eyeliner pencil I got for $8 at Sephora. My waterproof mascara is awesome and never runs or flakes. If you want to stop your eyeshadow from running or creasing, just put a nice base under it or do a base of Mac Shade Stick. It’s all good.
So yeah, things are water proof enough for me, thanks.
Oh no, you noticed!
A woman after my own heart.
I think we all know how many of the people in this thread have a secret fetish for office supplies.
My aunt does the permanent makeup. There’s not a huge market for it, but she has repeat customers…they’ll come back for a touch-up, a little darkening, etc.
I was her first client. I have my eyebrows done, and I’m not thrilled with them. She did a good job, but I do wish I could have my real brows back. I can’t afford to have them fixed, sadly.
