You can find a lot of slash by looking for “fanfic” plus “insertherenameofpopularseries”. My first encounter with it was in a webpage originally dedicated to Kitty Pryde and I just found out what’s it called… from this thread!
Man-on-man sex is hot! Just is. I’m really into slash and read a lot and I like looking at pictures of beautiful men. BUT… slash isn’t porn - not from my point of view anyway. It’s usually too romantic and sensual and even the most mindless fuck-stories has a quite different feel than ordinary porn. Try to read them back-to-back (no pun intended) and you might see for yourself - or maybe I have been reading the wrong kind of porn. Slash in my experience, even the NC-17 rated, is ‘romance’ genre-wise. I read slash for the stories actually - I love the romance aspect and sex scenes sometimes just get in the way of the story - depending on their hotness, of course Here’s an interesting article about slash and female sexuality. I’m very interested in WHY? myself and I put a small collection of links on my web site(last section - scroll down to the bottom.) to articles on the about and why aspect of slash.
Another thing, lately I’ve been thinking about why porn in general usually doesn’t seem to appeal much to a lot of women (me included, but mostly the het variety). I think it has a lot to do with that the vast majority of porn is produced for men. For me as a woman, the aesthetics are wrong, the presentations are off and the men aren’t really all that hot - to say the least. And the hard-core variety often looks sleazy and cheap. That being said, my experience with ordinary porn is limited - I have yet to find something that appeals and that doesn’t encourage me to look for more.
Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
Thank you for that article Ea_calendula. I found it very fascinating, especially the part about how women who are into slash are more likely to be tomboys. I’m not into BL rather than Slash, but I was a huge tomboy as a child. I also was surprised to learn that Slash doesn’t get as raunchy as BL can get. YAOI comes from an acronym which means “No plot, no peak, no point” because it refers to fan drawn comics where no story is depicted - just meaningless, graphic sex. I would to see a study comparing Slash and Boys Love fans to see what makes Slash fans more romantically based.
Glad you found the article interesting. I did too. And please call me just ‘Ea’
Regarding the tomboy ‘thing’ - as far as I remember from the article, it was somewhat speculative and they only had a sample of 22 persons - not much to draw general conclusions from, but it did make me think too. I wasn’t so much of a tomboy, but I did prefer boy’s company to girl’s as an older child. They were somehow more sensible and easier to be around. Still feel that today about men vs. women.
Slash covers the whole circuit from innocently fluffy to very raunchy. I don’t like fluffy stories myself, but I do like a good storyline - the sex is often secondary and I don’t read slash as I read porn. I haven’t read BL or YAOI really (I think maybe you equate the two - no?) hard to come by in Denmark if you don’t want to buy it from overseas and pay import taxes and I’m perfectly happy with all the free slash I can find on the Internet. But it was my impression that YAOI was rather romantic and sweet (besides the graphic sex) I have most of my knowledge about YAOI from this page. Btw. a sub genre of slash is labelled ‘PWP’ (Plot? What plot?) - translates rather like YAOI. I’ve also seen PWP translated into ‘Porn without plot’, but that is rarer and seems to be a newer development - though no less appropiate.
Porn doesn’t do anything for me regardless of the players, but after watching Broke Back Mountain and the scenes with the gay son on Desperate Housewives, I’ve discovered I get a little turned on by some male on male action (I’m female and straight).
Aaah, yet another soul turned You should try to search for slash on the Internet - search for fanfiction or slash on your fandom (book/film/TV-series) or actor of choice and pick your poison
. AFAIK most readers and writers of slash are straight women - you’re not alone. Some of it is very sexy and some is very innocent - usually it’s rated from G to NC-17.
Gay porn doesn’t usually do much for me. Like straight men’s porn, seems more focused on anonymous body parts than people, and like characters I can take an interest in and maybe even care about before I watch them fuck.
Slash, on the other hand, I enjoy very much, since it is more character and emotion oriented. You choose a pairing that interest you, imagine them together, and write your story from there. I’ve written close to 100 stories in the last ten years, from mild PG to pretty explicit stuff.
And there are some very hot gay-themed movies I love: Maurice, which not only features an adorable buck naked Rupert Graves, but appeals to my Merchant-Ivory tastes; Velvet Goldmine, with the hottest kiss between Ewan MacGregor and Jon Rhys-Myers; My Beautiful Laundrette, Wilde, and I’ve only seen Brokebroke Mountain three times, but I think the emotional intensity of it will probably keep it in a favorite position in my DVD collection.
Amen, amen, A-freaking-MEN!!!
There should be an “it” and an “I” in this sentence: “it seems more focused…” “I like characters…” Maybe it’ll make sense now.
When I first saw this, it was right at that kiss that I went from enjoying the songs and laughing at the platform shoes to “Oh, god, yes–I am buying this movie!”

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers… Swoooon… bump
Eh, where was I? Oh, slash, Maurice… Yeah, wonderful film. Unfortunately it seems to have been a bit neglected or something, since I’ve only been able to find one small piece of fanfic about ‘Maurice’ (besides the one I wrote myself). No fandon there apparently.
I’ll need to see Velvet Goldmine soon I think
I saw it right from the first performance with Curt where he um, showed off his “huge talent.” Yeah. I’m a MAJOR Ewan fan girl, this just cemented the love.
My only regret is that the scene with Curt and Arthur on the rooftop was filmed from so far away.

Gaaaah… Now you have me wanting to see it even more

You need to. It’s a great movie, really fantastic.
If you want stills, go to EwanMcGregor.Net (don’t worry, this just links to the website, not the naughty pics).

Not the naughty pics you say? sniff But that’s just what I waaaaanted… Btw. do I have to sign on as member to see pics? Looks like I have to…
I am female and straight. I like to read gay porn more than I like to watch it. Het porn does nothing for me, most of the time. What passes for romance bores me to tears, for the most part. I think it’s a matter of being interested in, turned on by MEN. I am not interested in seeing any chick get her kicks. That’s the competition, not the prize!
Not a yaoi dojinshi fan at all. Most of the pairings are very WTF (as in there doesn’t really seem to be anything in the canon to support such a pairing), and the relationship almost always seems to border on abusive with the “top” practically raping the “bottom” (who is typically drawn as pretty to the point of being a girl). And dojinshi artists’ aren’t shy about drawing young, prepubescent boys in such works, either.

Yes, but it’s just to avoid people hotlinking her photos-she’s had probblems before.
THEN go to movies, and “Velvet Goldmine” then “Screen Captures”.
My GF quite likes gay porn, gay guys, bi-guys, whatever. I have a number of female friends who think 2 guys are really hot. I don’t have a single male friend who doesn’t have at least a passing interest in lesbian porn. IMO that means woman are becoming more free with their sexuality and desire, much like men have been for any number of years. Couple that with the possibility that this more open female desire could mean more acceptance of gay males, I am all for it, and quite happy. I wonder if I will ever see the day when 2 guys are at a bar making out to pick up chicks.
