I think you really misunderstood what I was saying here. I completely agree, and all of my pets are chipped, as have my past pets been. But that is a non sequitur as far as what you quoted, which was a response to Colibri saying the thieves would tell the buyers that the dogs were not chipped. I was saying that I could not picture a non-suspicious way of saying that, without saying, “so you might want to get them chipped.”
And I still can’t see how you’d get a chip out without cutting the skin of this not anesthetized valuable dog, that you are trying to sell without raising suspicions.
I never meant to hide behind the actions of other people as a cheap excuse justify my own poor decisions. There are too many jerks in America who do that already.

Like I said, it is not something that I have ever attempted, but it is a very small object right under the skin. I have removed metal splinters from my arm that would be about the same size and depth, and it doesn’t require much of an incision.
Also keep in mind, that with the dollars involved for stolen pets, it would not necessarily have to be an “amature” that does this.
I wonder if a $500k reward might actually be counterproductive. The thieves know that anyone they might try to sell them to has a massive incentive to turn them in. So they’d just try to dump the dogs. Which could mean they just release them somewhere, or given the deep shit they are in already could mean they kill them.
Well, you see, it’s a matter of priorities. She could probably hire another dog walker before the injured one showed up at the hospital in the ambulance. She can’t just go out and get some more dogs.

Sure, but what does it matter? Gaga will pay whatever taxes are required.
There’s a certain logic to it. The thieves probably thought they’d snatch a couple dogs and make a few grand selling them on Craigslist. Easy peasy. But they shot a guy. So the smart thing to do would be to dispose of the evidence (the dogs) and either lay low or get out of Dodge.
So that’s what GaGa is facing. But wait, what if the owner offers $500K for there return? The thieves, not the brightest bulbs in the world, might keep the dogs alive and try to get some of that money. And if they do try, it might be possible to both capture them and get the dogs back alive.
So maybe this is a tactic to increase the odds of both capture and retrieval?
And there has been a curious silence from the media as to anything GaGa is doing for the dog walker. If it is nothing, that would be big news.
I mentioned that upthread. Once they shot the dogwalker, I think they pretty much lost any chance of selling them. Even without the reward, they risk an attempted murder rap if anyone recognizes the dogs - which of course they will from all the publicity. Now unfortunately the dogs are a huge liability for them. Best case scenario would be to release them somewhere, but I doubt they would risk that.
Someone has watched too much tv. Dognapping with attempted murder sounds like a very bad script. I hope two dead dogs aren’t found dumped someplace. I’m glad the dog walker will be ok.

- In Canada, I’m not sure you can offer a reward “with no questions asked” but it probably happens.
