Lady Gaga's dogwalker shot and dogs stolen

Not sure I see much risk to them just releasing them, as long as they release them away from where they live. Granted, I don’t see much risk if they chose to kill them, either. But at least there’s the possibility they might not.

I bet this was two generic street crime bozos who got the wild idea of moving up in class and graduated from knocking over liquor stores for the cash register in the poor part of town to try stealing some fancy doggies in a tony zipcode. The “plot” is no deeper than that.

And instead of stealing dogs from some generic rich non-celebrity business-dude, they accidently stole them from a pop celebrity. And in a panicky moment they shot somebody. Now they’re in way over their head and have no ability to think their way out. They’re screwed.

Hard to say if the dogs are already dead or are abandoned someplace, perhaps to be found and perhaps not.

Except they would have to drive around with a couple of yappy dogs in the trunk.

Gaga doesn’t have to pay any taxes. However, she may have to file a 1099-MISC to report a payment to an unincorporated independent contractor.

I wonder if the dogwalker had some kind of weapon of his own, albeit, maybe just a pocket knife, but threatened them with something. Not that that is an excuse for shooting him, but it’s a reason.

Is stealing dog a felony? and, is there such a thing as “statutory attempted murder”?

I would really hate for the dogwalker having a weapon (or claiming to) to be a mitigating circumstance. I hope that what they did is a serious enough crime to make shooting the dogwalker attempted murder, whether they had any intention to shoot him, or can claim self-defense. I hope it doesn’t become some sort of assault charge-- except by plea bargain.

I smell a Monty Python kind of story somewhere in all of this. Call for Michael Palin!

It wasn’t just stealing a dog, it was an armed robbery. They stole property of another and used deadly force to overcome resistance to the taking. And it’s assault with a deadly weapon.

But, if this is what you’re asking, no, there’s no attempted felony murder.

I’m not going to watch the video, but whether it’s attempted murder will probably depend on whether one can reasonably infer that the shooter intended to kill the dog walker. If he died, they could possibly be charged with a “depraved heart” murder, depending on jurisdiction, but that charge doesn’t work with attempts.

Yeah, our dogs came from the same rescue organization, and they always chip them. We change the first notification to us, but keep the rescue as a secondary notification. That way, if they can’t contact us for some reason, they’ll go back to rescue.

Did you watch the video? There’s no indication at all of this. The guy first falls down, then gets up and starts to struggle with one of them, holding on to him and pulling him. He didn’t have time to pull a knife, and when he was struggling both his hands were occupied. The shooter panicked because he was holding on to the other guy and not letting him go.

I watched it, but honestly, it was hard to tell what was happening all the time. I watched it only once.

I’ll be they’re stupid enough to try to get an accomplice to pretend he just found the dogs in order to claim the reward.

This video from another camera shows a different angle. You can see the victim is pulling on one of the robbers, not threatening him with a knife.

I don’t think that’s what you think it is.

I think I saw this scenario on Law and Order. I can’t remember what Lenny’s one-liner was.

Fixed. You should have said I had posted the wrong link.

LATimes is reporting the dogs have been recovered, safe and sound. No details yet.

Here are a few details.

So I guess the robbers released the dogs after all.

I don’t understand why that would be a barrier. I hear the same thing about the lottery. If you mention that it’s up to $X, someone in the room will reply that you’ll only get $Y after taxes.
$500,000 minus taxes is still better than $0.

And $900,000 after taxes is about $550K.

The fact that 500k might be 300k after taxes would not prevent me from turning in the dogs if I found them.

I’m very glad the dogs are safe. I’ll admit, I said a little prayer for them. Yes, I said one for the dogwalker too.

I fully admit as well that there’s probably something crosswired in my brain, but I get very upset when bad things happen to animals-- much more than I do when bad things happen to people. That includes in movies and books.
