I wanted to cover a laid off story and see if anyone has had thoughts about this (then I have my own one.) I ran into a family friend who had been in hospital administration for over 15 years, she got laid off and is going back to school for another degree. Her hospital has now outsourced admin work to the Phillippines as it is all run by computer systems anyways. She doesn’t want to fret and is grateful her family is supportive in her going back to school to do something else. It also didn’t occur to me after all these years, yeah with Internet/computers things can be done remotely for any opportunity, even to operate U.S. hospitals!
My own scenario: so my job isn’t getting outsourced overseas, but perhaps another route. I just flipped out when my coworker said she was training new hires in a new facility in another state and the confessed to her how much their hourly wages were. It as egads much lower than what we were getting paid in our state. (We have 110 employees here and they have chosen not to hire anymore here.) We noticed that our staffing, many of us aren’t cross trained in many depts./queue the way that other state’s staffing has (being crossed trained in 3-4 depts. after just being hired a few months). If they can find good cheap labor over there, we may be getting rid of.
Any one sharing similar scenarios?
