Lance Vogler has been Killed

Sergeant First Class Lance Vogler of the US Army Ranger Regiment died in Afghanistan about three weeks ago. He graduated from my high school, 14 years after I did. He has been credited with twelve combat tours. He is survived by his parents, his wife, two children and one who will born posthumously.

I have been keeping a rough count. He seems to be the 102nd Marylander to have died in these wars. I have no words.

It’s not much of a consolation for you, but as I was driving home today, I saw “Our prayers are with Lance Vogler”, or similar words, on several local marquees.

I suppose Frederick, our hometown, is quite broken up by this.

CNN has an interactive map of the world split screen with Iraq or Afghanistan that shows the hometown and location of each causality. When you click on the dot you get a name and pic then click again and a short blurt on the official events surrounding the death will pop up (including Lance Vogeler). link

I found this several years after the last death occurred among those close to me so you may also only find it interesting with some distance from the person or death. I check this every so often for people I knew, and their younger siblings, but lost contact with after I left the area I grew up in.
