Anybody else here like Lapsang Souchong? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I love it! But it’s definitely an acquired taste. Any other fans of it out there? Where do you get yours? What do you like with it? What do you take in it? I like mine plain, hot or iced.
My connection is Murchie’s, located on Robson St. in Vancouver, Canada. Murchie’s is the Holy of Holies. I’m with you, Qadgop, plain for me. (Adultery is a sin, after all.) I can’t understand why it’s an acquired taste. I liked it as soon as I smelled it. I usually give my friends a half-pound for Christmas. I have to give them something else, as well, because none of my friends like it all that much and it’s understood that I give it to them so it’ll be in the cupboard when I visit.

I’m straight and male as well, but tea is tea. Shall we make it a threesome?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm… 3 straight males, getting together for lapsong, and vegemite. Wow. How do you guys feel about 10 year old Wisconsin Cheddar cheese, and lutefisk? Habanero peppers on the side?
Lutefisk? This relationship isn’t going to work out, I’m afraid. Mmmmm… Fish & drain cleaner…
(To be fair, I’ve never tried it. Turns out I love limburger. But I’m vegetarian, so I guess I’ll never know.) Vegemite is a good thing. 3[sup]rd[/sup] best use of yeast I know of. Not in a sandwich though. I’m with ya on the cheddar & habanero, but maybe with a nice cabernet, instead of tea.
Now you’re just being mean. I had a tooth pulled an hour ago, so no food for another three hours. By that time, I’ll be at work, so the best I can hope for is instant coffee and potato chips from the vending machine.
But in the meantime, local anaesthetic and blood. Now there’s a taste sensation.
Sorry to spoil the moment chaps, but I just had to share…
Mmmmmmmmmmmm…blutwurst! Usinger’s makes a dandy product. But I hear ya, Larry. I’ve got some limburger in the fridge now. Double bagged of course. Must be served warm to be enjoyed. Just don’t knock drain cleaner until you’ve tried it.
The spice shop I bought my last pound of Lapsong Souchong from closed up. I’m trying to hunt up other local sources, before resorting to the internet. generally it’s a little pricier that way.
I love Lapsang Souchong tea, especially on cold mornings before lab classs. I buy mine from a Middle Eastern store but I have also seen some from Jackson’s of Picadilly. You may with to check out this site for ordering info, if you need to order from the Internet.
Not to intrude on this little lovefest, but I’m fond of it myself. Something about that weird smokiness that grows on you more and more. Mine is usually Taylor’s of Harrogate. It really shines, too, if you include a bit of it in whatever tea you use to make iced tea.
I get mine at Murchie’s as well, when I’m in Vancouver.
Vegemite? sure!
Haven’t had 10 year Wisconsin cheddar - but love 3 year Balderson (white cheddar from Ontario) mmmm. (And I get to eat the whole thing cause the Beloved doesn’t like it! )
Where do you guys stand on the blood sausage debate? I’m definitely for it - provided the white bits are good, of course.
[sub] Why am I starting to think that this thread could be called “Guy Food” or something?[/sub]
Lapsang souchong, yes. And I’m a girl too (I’ve heard it referred to as a “man’s tea,” whatever the heck that is).
I have some Twining’s at the moment from the local whole foods mart, and I have also ordered it from The Republic of Tea.
Russian Caravan is good too, but hard to find. You almost always have to order it. My husband says “it tastes like camel a**,” but what does he know. He’s never really tasted one (a camel’s patoot, that is).
I have to admit that when a friend of mine tried to introduce me to Lapsang Souchong tea by describing it as “English Breakfast with a cigarette butt in it” I was not inspired to try it…
I’ve loved that dark, smoky brew from my tea snob days back in college. My local connection is Teaism in Dupont Circle, at the intersection of Connecticut and R St.
I love tea. Orange Pekoe, Jasmine, China Green, Russian Gunpowder, Kenyan Black, Earl Grey, Prince of Wales, Irish Breakfast; it’s all good. In fact, I’ve only found one kind of tea I don’t like.
Lapsang Souchong
I’d rather drink a cup of plain boiled water than desecrate it with the vileness that is Lapsang Souchong. In the words of Phoebe Buffay “This is what evil tastes like.”
Lapsang Souchang tastes like soap to me. Some kind of violet flavored soap. I heard it was great, so I bought some at a Chinese market. Soap. Then I thought maybe it was just that brand, so I bought a better brand. Soap.
Why don’t we all get together for a glass of Malort instead?
