Laptop: Toshiba Satellite, 8 gig RAM, 500 gig HDD, Windows 10.
Browser: Firefox 47, 11 browser windows open, some with tabs so ~ 40 windows open altogether. Bluestacks with WWF. Tinder app. Torrent app. Comodo antivirus & firewall.
When looking at news sites, gong thru Gmail, random Googling - everything is fine. When I start scrolling thru Facebook, Firefox keeps crashing. Rebooted 3 times. Ran CCleaner & adwcleaner. Still crashing when scrolling Facebook.
Disk in Task manager seems to approach 100% right before crashing, but other times when I check right before Facebook scrolling, everything’s fine. No strange noises (like grinding) coming from the laptop.
ummm … why the hell you got 40 pages open? some people, using “lastpass” addon, experience problems with some of the updates.
typically … one needs to trouble-shoot such events:
[ul]
[li]try closing all windows except the “culprit” facebook window … then refresh facebook.[/li][li]use secondary browser (chrome, opera) with same window open.[/li][li]have you cleared all cookies and browser-cache?[/li][li]disable all browser add-ons (menu/help/restart with add-ons disabled).[/li][/ul]
that’s all that comes to mind.
-cleared all cookies & restarted
-killed all browser windows except the Facebook one
-no new add-ons
-every other browser window works fine in Firefox; only Facebook crashes
-Facebook browser window stays open in Facebook if I just leave it; only when down-arrowing or scrolling, does it crash
Facebook keeps crashing in Firefox, both 47 (most recent version) and 46. It does work in Internet Explorer.
If it’s unclear, Facebook in Firefox not only crashes itself, but brings down ALL Firefox windows. It ain’t just a matter of refreshing Facebook; if I try to go anywhere in the Facebook window, I can’t use Firefox for anything, complete Firefox crash.
My whole history, all bookmarks, several cool add-ons are all in Firefox - I can’t simply switch to IE.
Yes. I killed many windows, now ~ 15 open. Cache size is now only 10 MB, 999 MB allowed. Still crashes all of Firefox, only when I try advancing in Facebook. Messaging works; going to my profile page works; opening a notification in a new tab works. What crashes Firefox every time is scrolling or down-arrowing.
and it crashes without fail, even if the Facebook window is the only 1. Only with Firefox. It provides a detailed explanation when crashing, but much too verbose, can’t make sense of it. Anything particular to look for, in the crash dump?
Try it with adblock plus / ublock origin, fbpurity.com, and turn off Flash. If that still doesn’t work, turn off hardware acceleration. Probably fine after that. Although 8 gigs of RAM is not a lot for all the stuff you have open.
What’s probably crashing it is a video (what Hampshire said) or ad trying to load.
You can also try m.facebook.com for their simpler mobile interface, or (god forbid) the Windows 10 Facebook app (ugh).
Thx guys. My video setting was already off, I have adblock, and am using a laptop. I guess more RAM may help, but these are all the same windows I’ve been using for the last couple of months - Firefox was stable thruout, this came on all of a sudden. I’ll try out any other ideas.
Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. Completely exit Firefox (closing all windows). Then hold down shift while starting up Firefox again. You’ll be asked if you want to use Safe Mode.
If the problem doesn’t occur in safe mode, then the easiest solution is to Refresh Firefox. This will reset your settings and disable all your extensions, but will keep everything else, like your history and bookmarks. Your old profile will be saved on your Desktop. Once you are sure everything is fine, feel free to delete it.
If Safe Mode doesn’t work, it’s still somewhat possible Refreshing Firefox will work, but it’s much less likely. And it suggests the problem is with something else on your computer, like possibly malware.
