Laptop Lap Desks? (so I can use it in bed)

So I just bought a Macbook and am loving that I can use it almost everywhere. But I’d like to find some kind of lap desk that’ll allow me to use it comfortably from say, my bed, without having my blankets clogging the airports.

Any suggestions for a good lap desk I can use?

I have a hospital table. Works fantastically well. Adjusts in height, rolls around - I think mrAru picked it up for about $100 at a medical supply store. here it is

I got one of these for me, and one for the Mrs:

It’s on sale now

The one disadvantage is the surface gets noticeably warm after using the laptop for a while. Not uncomfortably hot, just warm to the touch.

That was not easy. All I got was Staples website. What did you buy?

I use the iLap with my laptop. It’s awesome. It keeps the laptop off your lap so it’s cool even in summer and the cushion is perfect for my wrists.

I bought this one for my mom when she got her new laptop:

The pad underneath is comfortable and detachable, and absolutely delightfully squishy. The time or two I’ve used it I’ve spent at least as much time squish squish squishing the pad as compootering.

Sorry! On the Staples home page I searched for “lap desk” (without the quotation marks). The item I bought is called “Staples(R) Contour Lap Desk” 2-5/8"H x 22-3/8"W x 15-7/8"D, on sale for $20 minus a tad. They also have a “Jumbo Lap Desk” that is 2-5/8"H x 18-7/8"W x 14-5/8"D, at $10 minus a skosh. The web site asked me to to enter my ZIP Code to get my nearest store for search results. The may not let us mere mortals link directly to an item. Durned combo online and brick-and-mortar companies …

Red,

I love this lap desk. It’s big enough for my 15" widescreen laptop and still have space for the mouse. How could I forget the strap? No losing the TV remote when it’s strapped in! I’d bet you’d be able haul your Macbook into your local Hampton Inn and try it out.

I have a small laptop (13.3" I think) and I LOVE this one from Barnes and Noble:

A cloth, soft beanbaggy bottom, nice top and little tabs that raise the back of the laptop up so that it doesn’t overheat.

Strappy things are good.

I should mention that, if the desk is getting too warm during use, your laptop is probably getting plenty warm as well. My solution, back when I used a lap desk, was a Traveler Coolpad from RoadTools. They sell 'em at Staples, so you can get one at the same time as the lap desk. It lets air circulate under the laptop and keeps things a whole lot cooler. Plus, it swivels! You can play “Star Trek”!

I can’t live without my Levenger Lap Desk. For some reason they don’t seem to show a picture of it (or else Firefox is acting up); here are a few other links with pictures:

It’s basically a kidney-bean shaped piece of plywood and comes with two straps for holding your papers. I also stick Post-its on it as needed.

If $48 is too pricey for you, this one looks close enough for jazz, and it’s only $15:
Brylane Lap Desk

And if you like the one at Brylane, go to Retail Me Not and search for brylanehome.com. They’ve got a coupon good for 30% off one item.

(As cool as that lap desk is, I don’t think it would work for using a laptop in bed, though.)

I have a lapdesk I picked up at Wal*Mart for $12. Works great.
