There’s an IFGS tourney in Garland, TX on Saturday. A flyer is available online. For those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about, LARPing is Live-Action Roleplaying–our particular group does fantasy gaming (like Dungeons & Dragons, but with more Monty Python quotes) in costume with padded weapons. Our other hobbies include collecting odd looks at the parks.
I talked to Mrs. Badtz about gaming at the last DFW Dopefest, and promised an invitation to the next game. Of course, anyone else in the area who wants to drop by and watch the weirdos in costumes make fools of themselves is welcome, too. Spectators get in free!
Excellent! Were I slightly (say, 1500 miles) closer, I’d definitely be there.
For those going ‘huh?’ at the subject of this thread, check out http://www.larpa.org for much more information on the Live Action Gaming hobby (admittedly, LARPA is more devoted to “Theater-Style” games, in which there are rules systems rather than IFGS and Nero’s ‘if you can hit him with a sword, you’ve hit him with a sword’ style).
Oh, and as long as we’re doing unabashed plugging- my housemate Mike Young has written a generic Theater-Style LARP rules system. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy ($20), send me an e-mail, and I’ll send you the web address where you can order it (I’d post the address, but I’d worry that that’s a bit too close to spam).
My “milestone posts” (100, 500, and 1000 so far) are my only new threads, each in a different forum (GQ, IMHO, and now MPSIMS)–so GD should be safe from me for the next 4000 posts. I haven’t been doing it on purpose, but now that the pattern is set…
Grace, I have fewer posts because I tend to rattle off everything I have to say on a subject in one massive megapost. I don’t generally post to a single thread more than two or three times. You, on the other hand, dole out your insights and opinions in careful, three-sentence doses.
You’re a little late, BTW–I stormed the castle in the last game. (Literally–I knocked the guards off the parapets with a Gale spell.) This one is more likely to involve sneaking around and throwing daggers–my kind of game.
John, I’ll email you for that address soon. You can never have too many viewpoints on LARP rules (well, you can, but I’ll leave our rules committee out of this). I really prefer the live-fighting style, though–it’s just more exciting (funnier, too, given the “interesting” combat styles we develop).
