I know, I shouldn’t be ageist. But I was surprised.
I’ve seen Kids and Another Day in Paradise. I just assumed that they were the work of some angry young punk just out of film school. But I just got a DVD copy of Bully and I was checking some info about it on imdb.com. And I happened to glance at Larry Clark’s birth year.
I thought it was a typo. But I checked and they’re standing by it. Clark was already past fifty when he made his filmmaking debut in 1995 with Kids.
I haven’t been this surprised since I heard that Kevin Smith was a virgin.
(Sorry to bump an old thread; I haven’t quite figured out what the etiquette is about this.)
I just watched Bully, having seen Kids a couple years ago. But I knew before I saw Kids that Clark was of another generation. Several of the other writers on Kids were of the generation of the characters, though, including Harmony Korine and Leo Fitzpatrick (who played Telly the sleazebag in Kids and the “mafia” hitman in Bully).
Ugh. Repulsive movies, both of them. And I mean that in the best possible sense.
