Las Vegas closes all-night marriage bureau

Las Vegas isn’t going issue marriage licences anymore. So couples will be forced to plan ahead at least a few hours if they want to get married  . Will getting engaged at 3:00am and married half an hour later is a nice novelty who really needs to get married on less than 8 hours notice? :dubious: Unless of course one’s on one’s deathbed  .

What’s next? Requiring the applicants to be sober?

I actually know a guy here in town who worked the night shift there (as his second job on weekends). He told me business was kind of slow at that time of night, it was difficult to find staff and other than the novelty factor, it was really a waste of time and money - BTW, he told me this two years ago.

Am not surprised.

Oh, and he also mentioned that despite what people might think, most people coming in for a license in the middle of the night were not drunk (with some funny exceptions he told me about) but that they simply had been busy running around Las Vegas and hadn’t gotten around to getting the paperwork done. Some simply forgot about getting a license until the last moment and dashed over before an early morning ceremony.
