I have finished my last day at my job. I was in a call centre working for the telephone banking part of the bank I work for. Dealing with customers all day.
I won’t have to do that ever again!!!
Mostly it was ok, but then you’d get people who thought it was ok to abuse you over the phone just because you could not do what they wanted. (“my card is in the ATM and I want you to give it me back” “OK, I can drive down there in about 7 hours, can you wait?”)I better save anything else I might say for a pit thread.
I am moving over to Operations where they look after all the hardware than runs all the bank’s systems (and they would let me loose in there  ) I start on Monday and I can’t wait. It is going to be sooooooo cool.
[sub]The 35% shift allowance is pretty damn nice too [/sub]
I have a job I am looking forward to starting, I have three days off to prepare, I’m getting lots more money for it and I have someone special who is happy for me.
From one call center worker to another: Thank the Gods!
I worked in a call center for to long. It sucks. Now I am going to work in another one, but much smaller (3 techs 200 endusers) and corporate so I wont have to deal with the buggers who like to cuss you out for stupid stuff.
I only worked 2 1/2 days, and it was for a good cause (to organise a protest meeting about a crappy bill being passed against hospitals) but holy goodness was that awful.
Three of us, 1200 phone calls. I am SO glad it’s done.
Operations? Does this mean you’ll be in charge of the information systems (servers, network, etc…)?
If you thought you were dealing with impatient people before, just wait till one of the server crashed and the CIO gets on the phone. BWAHAHAHAHA!
But seriously, good luck with your new job, and I hope you learn some valuable skills. Just remember what my first computer science teacher would tell us: “Computers do exactly what you tell them to do.” If you tell them to erase a hard disk with mission-critical data, they will be more than happy to do so.
I experienced the same thing - worked in a call center then was promoted to a consultant. I was amazed at how much better I felt physically - no more sore throat or tired back / shoulders because I could actually get up and walk around and not stayed slumped over a computer for 8 hours. Congratulations!
In my new job I won’t be taking calls cause there is a separate help desk where people call to log faults. And if anyone higher up has any complaints, they would go to someone higher up than me anyway.
I think the thing I am most looking forward too is not having to talk to rude customers who will not listen to what I was telling them. I lost count of the number of times I told someone something and they demanded to speak to a manager who told them exactly the same thing
Thanks for the words of support too. I am looking forward to the new job. I’m sure I’ll be nervous Monday morning, but at least they are not expecting me to jump right in and deal with it. They did not require prior knowledge and said that they would give me some training
