Last Dollhouse tonight Jan 29.

Just a reminder to Dollhouse fans: tonight is the last one.

Can’t wait. It’s just starting.

:frowning:

I guess that’s how it can happen. Over in a second.

“Psycho.”

“Lapsed.”

Did Alpha go out there too and get wiped?

Yes. there’s an exchange of dialogue between Echo and (I think) Adele that mentions this.

Incredibly moving finale, to me at least; despite maybe a slight hokiness to the reset-button plot, I cared to an almost painful degree about the outcomes of the various characters.

Gotta say that despite the frequent (and probably justified) criticisms of Dushku’s acting skills, her meltdown scene rang truer than true. I’m a 55-year old guy and I found myself practically weeping over her loss. That hardly ever happens.

One question: the pre-credits showed some clips from “Epitaph One”. Was it ever shown on broadcast in the US? I thought it hadn’t been.

No, Epitaph One was never broadcast here. Or even shown on HULU. And the blurb on my cable system even mentioned “The Lost Episode”–which was lost because Fox wouldn’t shell out to show it. Gosh, if they’d promoted this a little better…

Need to see this episode again before I can say very much; my cable was flickering. But I cried too. Paul & Echo. Priya & Tony. Topher. Adelle. Even Alpha.

I wonder who Alpha was, then. Would have been cool to see his original personality stand back up.

That was more satisfying than I thought it would be. I’m happy it was a “soft reset.” Yeah, they fixed everything, but the world is gonna be screwed up for a long time and Rossum/some other group might just try this all over again.

And Joss, I know you said you’re done, but we really need something to bridge this ten year gap. It doesn’t have to even be a whole series, just one graphic novel.
You know you want to.

Wasn’t he originally a psychopath anyway? The earliest dolls were prisoners.

Didn’t much care for it – as I said before, it was completely and utterly unnecessary. The series should have ended in the previous episode just before the “Ten years later” title – it would have been a satisfying conclusion with a wonderful hint of ambiguity.

This was like watching the final episode of a series you’d never seen. They were tying up loose ends that were created right in the episode. And having Alpha well-adjusted was just too out of the blue.

Also, it really didn’t make much sense. What was the point of wiping everyone to turn them into reavers? Why on earth would Rossum want that? They didn’t seem particularly happy with the result, yet the continued to want to wipe people. What was the point of it?

I think this should go into the “This episode never happened topic.”

Mmm, I’ll disagree. It was really a direct follow-on to “Epitaph One”, and in that regard worked very well. I’ll admit it would probably be much less effective for someone who hadn’t seen that ep (thus probably most of the broadcast audience).

The point of the mass-wiping tech that in part created the Butchers was explained in E-1 as a way to win wars by creating instant armies out of the victim country’s own citizens. It doesn’t fully explain why it got so carried away.

BTW, the Captain Beefheart quote in your sig? I believe should be “…good two-dollar room and a good two-dollar broom”, shouldn’t it?

Heh. One thing I got a kick out of during the scene with Victor’s Road Warriors, I thought to myself, “that looks kind of fun. Roaming the land in a giant armored truck, kicking ass as Fortune wills it.” And then, the plot takes a giant turn because some of the Road Warriors just can’t bear to give up the badass Road Warrior lifestyle.

On the other hand:

Ballard should have stayed dead!

On yet another hand, though:

I can’t think of a better way for that actor to end up than as a HeadBallard

I don’t think I have to spoil this since the episode already aired, but I’ll do it anyway just in case:

Ballard is dead isn’t he? I thought Echo just implanted one more good memory of him for herself.

I guess that depends on what dead means in the Whedon universe.

Paul was in Alpha’s head (remember, Alpha downloaded Paul to find out what was so great about him to make Echo love him). Alpha asked Adele for a favor. Priya said Alpha said to break down the tech starting with the chair. Echo finds the wedge. I would guess the wedge contained the Paul consciousness that’s been kicking around in Alpha’s head. Or maybe it was the Paul consciousness that Topher used to re-construct Paul (he must have had him somewhere, since he created active architecture to restore Paul to his braid dead body). Anyhoo, I think she implanted a lot more than just a memory.

Overall, I liked it. Wish Whedon had more time with the Dollhouse. Then again, it was a big push to get past the “whore of the week” plotlines and get to the good stuff.

Very satisfying finale for me. Full of Joss’s brutal and merciless storytelling touches (I literally yelled Damn you, Joss! at the TV

when Paul fell).

And who else but the coolest storyteller on the planet would use Apocalyptica during the final apocalyptic battle?

Which is why it didn’t work. I’m the broadcast audience, and if you require an unaired episode to fill in the background, then the episode doesn’t work.

In any case, it was still unimpressive. Everything was rushed; things that should have developed over the course of several episodes were introduced than resolved. And, frankly, I didn’t care from the start since the previous episode had a perfect ending for the series – resolution, with a nice note of ambiguity.

Typo on my part. I fixed it.

I’m glad I saw it through until the end - but it was only OK. For me, the idea of “jumping bodies” doesn’t ring true. The “real” me is dead.

So I didn’t see Epitaph One. When did Adelle and Topher fall in love?

Man, I wish we could’ve had a season to flesh that stuff out.

Edit after post above me: They’re not in love, she just took on a motherly role with him, since she played a big role in why he’s suffering.

Me and my wife hated it. It just seemed so unnecessary and it was like a totally diferent show. Yeah it had all the same characters but the finale is 10 years alter and each character has changed in ways we don’t know. I am glad others liked it, but I didn’t at all.
