Last few posts of a thread displaying as bold where in fact they aren't coded as such

First time it’s happened to me…

Here

I even checked by clicking reply on one of the posts…there definitely aren’t any [ b ] or [ /b ]'s there…

Not that it bothers me - Just trying to figure out if it’s a personal or board-wide bug

Same for me. IE win 98.

I’ll check the XP box and Mac when I get home.

Hmmm…there was a post with an improperly closed bold tag in there; I edited it and closed the tag, and everything now appears correctly. I was under the impression that in the new version of vBulletin improperly closed tags weren’t supposed to “spill over” like that any more, so it’s still a bit weird.

If you nest tags improperly, like doing [ b]
… [/b ] [ /quote] it seems to cause the spillover bold. Test:

**

blah

blah

blah

I’ve noticed quite a few older (pre-3.0) threads that suffer from permabolding.

Yes, that’s it. We’ll get permabold from now on. For the record, the code I used was:

==========
[ b][ quote]unclosed bold bit[ /b][ /quote]

blah

blah

blah

The quoted text is not bolded in the original, everything below it is, despite the open bold tag first and the closed bold tag right before the endquote. It should have been [ b][ quote] … [ /quote][ /b]

You can’t even get rid of it by a bunch of end tags, see? ******
blah blah blah

From a different version of VBB 3.0.x I can report that embedding any formatting inside a code, e.g., “[ quote=[ b] Gaudere [ /b] ]” will corrupt the entire remainder of the thread, formatting the entire thing bold or italics or underscore or font change to whatever was embedded within the code. (This produces amazingly bizarre results when what was embedded was a font change – and I’m sure the Mods. will appreciate my thoughtfulness in not demonstrating what it does!

I’m not seeing any out-of-place bolding, including those parts that Gaudere specifically said should be. This may be, at least in part, a browser issue. I’m currently using Mozilla Firefox v. 0.9.3. When I view this page in IE, however, I get the permabold. Weird.

I bolded Q.E.D.'s name within the “quote=X” coding, as a test. Does this post now appear to be perma-bolded in Firefox?

Trying that again – the closing bracked on the emboldening apparently vanished.

That’s odd – it appears to see the closing bracket on the [ b ] as a closing bracket on the [ quote= which is not the case in VBB 3.0.4 (if I recall the version accurately).

We’re still at version 3.0.0, which may be part of the problem.
