Due to some changes in circumstances, I’ve been left with a choice to fly home for the holidays (about $800CAD), or a last minute vacation deal to some random tropical destination for about $600 (or stay in a really unejoyable situation where I neither want to be nor will be wanted – and no, it’s not family drama). The last minute travel agent I’m thinking about is SellOffVacations.com. My question then is has anyone ever used this or a similar service?
If so, what were your thoughts? Where did you go, how much did you actually spend, etc.
I’m going to Montreal for the next few days and then I’ll come back and have to make up my mind fast.
A friend of ours did a Last minute 40th birthday bash.
In the Dominican Republic. We got about 7 days notice. It was a very good deal, 7 days in an all inclusive resort including airfare from Denver. All liquor and food, including an in room bar and 3 activities or excursions. I think it was $700 apiece.
My Wife and I looked at each other…….Na, can’t do it with work and such……
About 10 minutes later I was on the phone to my boss.
Now this wasn’t a random destination, but we only new 1 of the 10 people that we ended up hanging with(the birthday girl knew them all so it wasn’t like total strangers)but it was great fun.
Sometimes, ya just gotta say ‘fuck it’ and do it. Keeps the blood running.
Last minute getaways from Intercontinental Hotels Group. $600 will go a long way. From my nearest gateway, Seattle, I can go to Boston, DC, or Toronto for under $400.
I’ve used this service a couple times – great value if you can get away on their schedule.
Sorry, I see you’re in Edmonton. The sitle lists 40 different vacations to the US under $600. There’s also trips to Amsterdam & London – for under $300.
Actually, I’m currently in Hamilton (Edmonton is where my family is). Just got back from Montreal. Will be moving back to Waterloo on January 1st.
So most likely I’ll end up taking a $10 bus ride to Toronto and fly out from there if I do this. I have some other stuff I have to take care of first, though.
