First, the picture Kittens.
A few weeks ago, we stopped by the pet store just to grab some food for the existing kitties (Bear and Serendipity, pictured in the background to the left and right respectively). While there we found out they were giving away some cats who would be euthanized that night if not adopted. One apparent kitten earned herself a reprieve by virtue of actually responding to attention. Probably the tiniest of all the cats, but also the apparently healthiest.
She was tiny, and we quarantined her until we could get her to the vet, not wanting to get the other two sick. We didn’t name her until a visit to the vet as we didn’t want to get too attached until she was checked out. Fortunately, while she had worms, was pregnant, and had conjunctivitus we were able to get her healthy with a minimum of fuss.
We still needed a name, but her interaction with the other cats provided the answer. Now, keep in mind that she is 5 lbs despite being a year old (based on her teeth) and Bear is around 14 lbs. On their first sight of seeing each other she made a weird howling-hiss and bear immediately tucked tail and ran. We decided to name her Tori, as in Cacciatore as the only predator of bears are hunters.
The kittens are still working out the boundary situation and there is some wariness all around, but they are relatively calm.
Anyway, she’s now a happy, healthy kitten who purrs like a finely-tuned motor and loves snuggling up to her people.
