So last Saturday afternoon I traveled 130 km to do maintenance on my tractor I lease out. There were a few minor things to do, an oil change for the hubs, plus I was also asked to check out one of the mowers as it was blowing fuses.
I’d done everything else and had just started with the oil when the boss gets back and finds me still around. His eyes light up and asks me if I’d do a trip to collect bales. There were 39, and the truck could only bring a max of 17 a time, so a 3rd trip would be necessary.
So I hurried through the change, and hooked up to a trailer. Remembered to grab my camera, and was off. It was about 15kms each way, plus the time to load, so it was dark by the time I got to the unloading site. After getting some external video, I got in the cab with Ross to chat and do some more video.
I was surprised to see how quickly my 1GB card filled up, only about 20 minutes fitted on.
Then the fun started to edit and put on a voice-over. After I don’t know how many hours dicking around, I’ve got something ok-ish. The credits didn’t work out, there’s crackling on the voice-over, and a shot in the too dark, when boosted, is just a fuzzy blur.
I used Virtual Edit to do the editing, and VirtualDub to do the resize to 480x360 with Xvid compressing. Result with Xvid was far better than DivX.
