I am hugely opposed to the idea of putting discussion of the current episode inside spoiler boxes. Like any reasonable person would, I avoided the thread from the time the show first started airing until I’d seen the episode several hours later. (I can magically tell time.)
So I watch the episode, come into the thread, and see a spoiler box. Naturally I skip it, because I don’t want to read any spoilers about Sunday’s finale. A few posts later I come to find out that the spoiler box is around discussion of the current episode.
Completely disagree. It’s impolite to come back to camp and go on and on about how the reward they just missed out on was the awesomest thing ever. Downplaying a reward to foster the illusion of “you didn’t miss much” is tactful and should be appreciated.
That’s not what they were doing, of course, but that’s absolutely how Amanda and PG should have read it. Instead they chose to read it in the whiniest, bitchiest way possible. And as hard as it may be to believe on the SDMB, not everybody knows how to eat every food ever conceived by man. They honestly didn’t know how to eat that meal, and it frankly looked kinda shitty to me unless it was the type of meal you were used to. Which they clearly were not, what with the upset stomachs and all.
Of course I won’t hold that against Hot Amanda, being hot and all, and PG is gone now, so it’s all good.
If you want to talk about bitchy to the max, how about Todd coming back from a reward challenge and complaining that the two who didn’t get to go ate all the rice?
A lack of self-discipline and thoughtfulness. Sometimes, some people just jump into whatever thread they see and start posting. Then there’s a mixture of people who want spoilers and people who don’t, and people who are mad that it was spoiled for them in California, but then start posting immediately after they see the show, unmindful of people in Alaska or Hawaii. And that doesn’t even include people like Canadians.
My recommendation? If you don’t see a thread safely labelled — with the show’s date or episode title and notice of spoiler boxes — then go ahead and open a thread yourself. Like-minded people will join your discussion. Of course, you’ll still get a few party crashers from time to time, but at least no one will begrudge a well-founded righteous indignation.
It’s not what they were doing, but Amanda should have read it that way anyway? Why??? I think it was pretty clear they were being honest. They didn’t downplay their experience with the Great Wall.
You’ve set up a false dichotomy-- either praise the reward or downplay it. You can just STFU about it, or just say it was really nice without going into details. But coming back and bitching about the food was just so over the top, it had me wanting to puke.
Todd: “I can’t believe you were so rude and thoughtless to eat all the rice while we were away having a cooked-meat feast on the Great Wall of China.” Douchebag.
No, it is not wrong at all. I am hoping exactly the same thing. Of course, given her “My mom will kill me!” comment when her top slipped off during one of the early challenges (mud wrestling?), I’m not terribly optimistic. She’ll probably wind up in FHM or something.
I’m guessing at this point, PG will make a long dull speech as a juror stressing her own “honorable” play and lambasting the finalists. Like keeping her around made any sense at all - she had 2 or 3 jurors definitely on her side - Jaime, Erik, possibly Frosti if he could resist Courtney’s bulimic wiles.
There have been two loose conventions about the show threads:
The thread would be labelled with the name and date of the show, which was an implicit warning about possible spoilers.
Posters would try to not post blatent spoilers until after the show had aired in the contiguous US. This has been followed loosely if at all.
This thread breaks convention#1, but the offended poster (me) should have known better than read the thread in any case (I said as much above), and expect that convention #2 would possibly not be observed.
Oh yeah, that was even worse than bitching about the reward food. Maybe Amanda would be smart to keep him around until the end-- he’s probably hated by more people than anyone else.
Denise is starting to climb in the ratings, I think, what with her winning the last two reward challenges. I’d say that it’s either her or Amanda who are going to win, if either ends up in the final 2. Todd and Courtney don’t stand a chance against either of them, so they should be scheming to end up together. If that happens, I sure hope Todd wins.
I still think Amanda will win but maybe Denise and Courtney (now that they are best friends) will figure out that they need to convince Todd to vote out Amanda (assuming she doesn’t win immunity). That would be the smart move for those three, since they should know she’s the odds on favorite to win.
The next immunity challenge will be the deciding factor, of course. I’m loving the way this is all working out. But the girls really need to consider voting Todd out if they get the chance, toad or not. He’s too sneaky to take a chance on.
If Denise wins immunity, then I see Amanda being the one to go. If Amanda wins it, then Denise is toast. If Todd wins it, then bye-bye Amanda. If Courtney wins immunity, then it will be Denise that leaves. In any case, Todd and Courtney will be in the Final 3.
I am not so sure about Denise climbing on the ratings chart. The juries have seldom been kind to people who just fly under the radar. And lately she has been stupidly loyal to people who will not be loyal to her. So everyone who has fallen because of her inability to think independently of an alliance where she stands to gain nothing will be pissed at her.
But Denise hasn’t been flying under the radar. She’s been doing work around camp, she’s been winning challenges, she’s been playing PG like a fiddle (Maybe I will switch sides and vote with you… Syke!") and she’s a solid member of a solid final four voting block. A strong case could be made for her.
The same case could be made for Todd (scheming out in the open) and Amanda (scheming in the shadows as the real ringleader).
While Courtney is also part of that final four block, she’s been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the final four by the other three.
Ha, yeah PG’s blathering on about her “honor” gave me a good laugh. I guess she thought being a giggling ditz while throwing an immunity challenge was perfectly honorable.
If Todd is in the final 2, he may be able to pull off a change in people’s perspectives. A lot of times people get pissed at someone they see as backstabbing, especially if that person got you voted off. But by the time they have to vote, sometimes they realize that “backstabbing” is all part of the game, and you pretty much have to do some of that to win. All this BS about playing “with honor” is just ridiculous. It’s a game of poker, and as long as you don’t cheat, honor doesn’t even come into it. With Jeff and the crew watching, it’s hard to cheat in this game.
But Todd didn’t backstab. He got right in people’s faces and basically told them “I am running this game and you all have to do as I say.” Not a good strategy come final two time.
It’s only by the grace of Amanda, Courtney, Denise and James is he still in the game.
Agree. I think the classic example of this is Christy Smith, who did an exit speech replete with “you evil step-sisters, I’ll never forgive you, goddamn you to hell!”… well, not quite that bad, but close. And then Christy voted for her evil step-sister, Jenna Morasca in the end, on an “outplayed” platform, IIRC.
