now if I can just convince Madpansy to do the driving that night… :dubious:
I could possibly, just possibly mind you, be talked into bringing a third bottle to sample. You’ll have to research what I have yourself. (A search on silenus, single malt scotch should give you a few leads.)
I was at the IP as well (also returning on Sunday - I was the guy getting freakishly lucky at Pai Gow on Saturday night, before giving half of my winnings back) and the rooms were fine. Very nice, in fact. Very nice beds, flat screen TV, large bathroom.
I am sorry to inform all of you that I will not be able to make that weekend…our anniversary is that weekend, and I have made other plans that are more…ahem…private. I’ll try to catch the next Dopefest. Enjoy all!
22 Male, non-smoker, fairly late nighter, mixed sex okay, staying Friday and Saturday night. I want to spend less than $100 a night for the room (less is better as long as it’s not a ghetto place).
Well! I guess we know where we stand in Yeti’s priorities!
<Harumph!>
Just drink early and get it out of the way so you’ll be OK to drive. What? I am not going anywhere near that pool so you cant throw me in)
I see how it is…putting your IRL family first! How dar… Uh, I mean have a fantastic weekend with your wife! (and Happy Anniversary).
I’ll try to make it! I’m just a little bit north! I’ll bring homebrew if I come!
Brattiatti and I (her sister) have looked over the plans. We would like to do the Friday night drinks, the Shark Reef Acquarium, the Saturday Barbeque, and the Saturday Evening Dance. We will probably not be able to make the Friday dinner because we are driving down that day. Concerning Sunday, we will play it by ear because we need to drive back that day, but as long as it isn’t too late in the day we would like to meet for breakfast.
For the barbeque on Saturday, what would we need to bring (sides, dessert, etc.)?
I’m finding hotel listings at typically $150 for each of Friday and Saturday nights, including rough estimated taxes; Thursday and Sunday nights come in around half that. Splitting a room two ways, even for the two key nights, makes the cost reasonable.

I just love a challenge, don’t you? you are soooo going to get wet

Okay, then – I hadn’t planned to wear a swimsuit, but if you’re declaring general war, I suppose I should be prepared.
If anyone’s interested, I can bring wine for Saturday BBQ as well.
Yeticus, surprise her! What spouse wouldn’t be thrilled to have a surprise anniversary party in Las Vegas with a bunch of half-crocked Dopers at a bar in Hooters?!
For those planning on sharing rooms (a great idea) this will allow you a wider choice of hotels to choose from. Tropicana is an older hotel, but has a great location, with MGM Grand, NYNY and Excaliber on each corner. I stayed there once and the rooms were a bit musty, but you might be able to get a great deal there…and the pool area is truly spectacular. They also have two exhibits running there - “Titanic” (with artifacts) and “Bodies” (a bizarre exhibit of preserved human bodies). Just a thought and worth a call to get prices. Also, check out booking an entire suite at some of the hotels! A friend got a great deal at NYNY for a three bedroom suite that averaged out to be much cheaper than if they had reserved three rooms. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
And to those of you who have asked about what to bring to the BBQ, we can talk about that when the time nears…
Although with silenus’ plan to bring a trunk load of scotch and dare Rick and giant freakin marine to sample them all while they are manning the grill, plus the brewing catfight between LVgeogeek and kurilla by the pool…maybe I should look into a firehose and a couple of ambulance gurneys.
Once we get an idea of who will be attending and what everyone is interested in doing, then we will solidify the plans. We will zap emails to everyone with specifics (directions, cell phone numbers, hotels where others are staying, etc.) the weekend before.
So let us know if you are still planning to come, and if anyone else suddenly decides to come at the last minute - no problem!
I wasn’t aware that Tropicana was still standing; I thought had been replaced by now. I’ll look up its prices.
The suite is also a good idea; I’ll compare its prices. But so far I’m staying 4 nights and the other people in the roommate match are staying 2 nights. If/when more people sign up, a suite may become a very good idea.
Back off man… I’ll bite your ankles!!

not Kurilla… giant freakin marine

Yep, the Trop is still there, although lots of rumors of tearing it down, but some say they simply intend to do major renovations. In any case, it is an older hotel, but not bad - and the pool area alone is reason enough to stay there. Regarding the four night stay - normally you can get a room mid-week (your Thursday and Sunday nights) for much cheaper than the weekend, so maybe you might want to consider the suite with the gang for Fri/Sat and book the single room for yourself on Thu/Sun.
A bit of room change madness, but could pay off in costs.
And LVgeogeek, once you and kurilla start taunting the giant freakin marine, it will be a moot point.
That’s about what I’m finding, DMark – I can get a room for $60 - 80 plus taxes for the two outer nights, and $100 - 150 for the weekend nights.
Were I to move around like that, I’d have to talk directly to the hotel and work out the logistics carefully.
The suites I’ve found so far are 1-bedroom units with a big tub. I haven’t found anything I’d call useful, so far, so I’ll keep checking.

A one bedroom will is all likely hood have a couch that folds out into a bed in the front room. The people sharing can play rock, paper scissors for who gets stuck with the couch.
I haven’t had time to look for a room, I am leaving town in an hour or so, I will look Sat when I get back. Depending on what I find, I may be in the market for a roommate.
I['m bring a bottle of Glenmorangie Port Wood finish and another bottle. I have to look and see what is in the booze locker, I think there might be a bottle of Blue Label there.

There might be a different term than “suites”…perhaps multi-room suites or something?
Try calling one of the 800 numbers and asking the operator the cost and availability of a two or three bedroom suite and see if they use other terminology…if you are looking on-line, “suites” usually just mean a larger (costlier) room with an extra living room and larger bathtub, etc.
My friend who got the deal at NYNY (for his son and some buddies out here for a bachelor party) said the three bedroom suite was about 1/2 price of booking three rooms separately.
Thanks for such an interesting set of events!
I’ll speak to my sister and get back to you.
(I like films; she likes trips. We both like barbecue and shows. )
